Any info on if/when this campaign is going to kick up again? Are the same players going to be involved with it again? Seeing the state of EBR and the way it is being lead and directed, it is time to do this. I bet this time they have a much easier time passing it.

Except the election of a complete fool to govern BR. I don't see how anyone could think St George doesn't have a better shot this time

I just don't think the fool mayor will motivate the people that either A) didn't vote or B) didn't vote for it...to change what they did last time.
The larger problem there is A and noting short of free money would get them to the poll....or maybe Barrack Obama leading the SG effort.

ISDs work in many areas, and in some areas they are working right now in EBR. Some people in St. George believe that's the way to go, but many others do not.
If all this is true and at it's core this is an education driven initiative then I'm wondering why nothing is done.....You'd have a hard time convincing me that the people are motivated to do it period...I mean the 2 solutions you've presented ISD and new city could both work (either/or I mean)....so why is nothing done???

They need to hurry.
I live in BR proper, and I signed the petition 4 times. Anytime someone puts a petition in my face, tells me its to support better schools, and makes attempt to determine if I am part of the proper area or asks if I have signed before, I am signing. If there is one thing I am for it is better schools.

The legislature could create an ISD for St George. They won't because the BR delegation in the legis is against it.
So the only other option is a new city which could then get their own ISD without legislative approval. However, that is a very complex thing to do, given the size of the area.

Then IMO they should make the area smaller (like Central/Zachary) to get is passed.
If neighboring areas want to join in, they could always be annexed in after the fact.

Wow I can't believe you'd disrespect the memory of Alton Sterling by even suggesting this

Basically true.

I don't think that's true, I believe that even if a city is organized, and voted in; a school system is NOT automatic.

No vote was every taken, not enough sigs were provided to authorize one. The organizers fell less than a 100 short.

St. George has all these grand plans for top schools. Where are they getting the money? Are they going to raise property taxes to do so?

I live in what would be the middle of St George. I wont be voting for it.

I'll bet if there is civil unrest due to Alton Stirling in the next month, the City of St. George will be put on a fast track.

They have an unrealistic budget which fatally underestimates every cost possible.

Let's be honest, the quality of schools has little to do with how much money is put into them and everything to do with the students and their families.
St. George schools will be among the most successful in the state in a few short years. My problem is the potential damage that does to the remaining schools (and children) in Baton Rouge. It could very well be a negative sum game.

Anyone who pays property taxes now in EBR Parish pays taxes to one of the school systems.
ST Georgians (to be) pay property taxes to the EBR Parish School system, and businesses in the same area pay sales taxes to the EBR Parish School system.
In lieu of paying the EBR system they would pay the St. George School System. Tax revenues are there right now to build and operate schools. The question is not whether or not there is money, the question is whether or not there is enough money.
FWIW, Central and Zachary both faced the same issues St. George is facing and both are doing well. Baker is not doing as well.
As for tax increases that is possible, and that is one factor that should be considered by anyone on the fence.
