re: In Dash Cam Video, Uber CEO Argues With Driver Over Falling Fares

His rider rating is going to go down.

The news here reported that Uber drove more miles in 2016 than yellow cabs in NYC. Thats tough to comprehend due to the vast amount of yellow cabs on the streets. Mass transit ridership has dropped for the first time in several years. Streets are more congested due to the increase in vehicles.
The silver lining is that mass transit has to deal with market forces if they want to reverse the decline. That or NYC will just regulate ridesharing out of existence.

While I agree the CEO is probably a douche, our concern over the plight of yuppie drivers is ultimately going to ruin Uber.
It's extremely easy not to be an Uber driver anymore. And there are likely people who will fill those spots gladly, at least in large cities.

This article appears to address the wants and/or needs of a very low percentage of actual uber users/drivers. Who gives a frick about "uber black"?! It almost seems like an advertisement for "uber black". The issue I have with uber is that it is still too expensive for a night out. I generally spend upwards of $80-$100 a night with uber if we do dinner and go to two or more places around town. I'm certain most college kids can't afford that. Granted I live in a suburb of Baton Rouge so I'm not right there in town. I can't wait for completely automated cars to arrive, which will hopefully reduce the cost of ride sharing. Hate to see anyones job taken away but I really don't give a shite about a drivers problems. I need a safe and economical ride to and from my destination(s), that is all.

I mean the boss is right. If you lost 97k (bs) and went bankrupt and are still doing the same job expecting things to change that's your own fault. Nobody is making you be an Uber driver.
It's not like you invested a lot of time, money, or effort into getting the job or were promised anything when signing up.

the driver lost me when he blamed that shite on the CEO.
And how the hell do you lose 100k from driving a car?

Exactly. It doesn't fit the Progressive narrative but a guy at the bottom of the totem pole probably shouldn't be arguing corporate policy with the CEO. Any chance the driver isn't seeing the larger picture? News flash, the CEO is focused on company survival and not the travails of a single Uber Black driver.
Bad timing though. This coupled with the crazy chicks sex harassment claims may play out badly for the CEO. FWIW, the sex claims certainly have a basis in truth but the exaggerations of the lady that wrote the story are obvious.

If a government's options are to either improve itself or regulate it's competition out of existence, which do you think it will choose?

Did anyone else catch his shimmy at the beginning of the video hahaha

Poor dude is just trying to bang chicks and gets dragged into a huge controversy.

Agree. For that amount you would think Uber actually owned the vehicles.
They don't own anything other than the name, an app, and maybe a cpl servers.
More power to them.
Especially when they haven't shown that they are even on their way to being profitable yet.

and it cannot be explained away. It’s clear this video is a reflection of me—and the criticism we’ve received is a stark reminder that I must fundamentally change as a leader and grow up.
It's almost always the, "Those comments or that video is not a reflection of who I am" blah blah blah

quote:Oh he's definitely right. And I don't think that video is quite as bad as I thought, but nonetheless, that's not at all a good look for a CEO to act that way with a front line staffer in the line of duty.

But sure, if that dude is saying he went bankrupt because of me, I would hope I don't say it out loud to cause a stir like this, but I'd certainly be thinking just what he said, take responsibility for your own shortcomings.

My first experience with an uber driver was him coming back to my friend's house and getting wasted with us. I called him an uber driver at 4:30 am because he was passed out. His car was parked outside for over 24 hours after he left.

The CEO just better be glad the driver wasn't Spencer, because he would have driven cross country and tried to get his slice of the 69 billion.

I agree with what the CEO said there at the end. Not seeing the issue
