Even at his highest known speed, approximately 4 times the speed of sound (3000 mph), there is no type of known force he could exert that would stop the rotation of the earth and then make it go in reverse. The director probably thought we wouldn't question it and would be too busy rejoicing in Lois' return from death.

Really the only flaw in an otherwise great movie.

And, Movie/TV board.

He didn't reverse its rotation, he travelled fast enough to go back in time (which is also stupid but less so). The earth going backwards is just a visual representation of him going backwards in time. You fricking moron.

We should dig up Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and ask.

Who would've guessed that the key to time travel was the rotation of the Earth.

That scene was soooo damn stupid lol... so much bullshite.

This movie has got to be 30+ years old. Did you just watch it or has this been bothering you this long?

I had a harder time believing that Superman could have sex with Lois and not rip her in half. Or that when he climaxed, it didn't blow her head off like a shotgun.

Fastest known speed is faster than you said.

That might be our fastest acheivable speed?

If Superman flies faster than the rotation of the Earth he deals with time at a different rate than thoae closer to the center of the Earth's rotation. Same is true with satellites. In fact, accurate satellite positioning requires an adjustment in time due to this phenomenon...also called relativity.

Well, this is not completely true. First, you must accept that, working within the confines of the story, he can travel fast enough and that he is not limited to "4 times the speed of sound."

So how did his trick work? Gravity.

If Superman has mass then he exerts gravity. At this point, it's just a math problem. True, he exerts very little gravity upon the earth at the distance that had to have been from earth to stay out of the atmosphere. But if he flew fast enough, he could reverse the rotation of the earth. It would just be a matter of how fast he flew and how long it would take to reverse the spin.

This would of course, NOT explain the time travel thing. That part was just stupid.

Still a less glaring plot issue than numerous in BvS.
