i've bought at least a baker's dozen of these for friends & family for under $70 and yet to hear a single complaint.

You just give thermostats away as gifts? Talk about dedicated to your fanboyism.

That isn't the new one I was talking about it. The round one that looks like old school Honeywell/similar to Nest is very cheaply made. I was very disappointed in it, I really wanted to like it and ended up going with the cheaper Ecobee.

Honeywell needs to step up their app game too, their apps are shite.

how so? what does it need that it doesn't currently have?

You can set the temperature, change from heat to cool, change the fan setting, set up schedules.

I can't think of anything else that you need to do with your hvac system.

I just put the Honeywell t5 lyric pro in upstairs and downstairs. It has geo fencing which is a nice feature. I have been extremely pleased with them. They were the only thermostat that works correctly with my zoning system which is Honeywell also

Just shitty design and buggy. Maybe they have updated it since I played with it, but it needed work.

So I just bought two of these Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat (RTH9580WF) for my house.

Just installed them last night so this may be a dumb question.

I set a schedule, ie 68 Heat and 73 Cool for a certain time. I would think that if the temperature fell to 65, the thermostat would automatically kick on the heat and vice versa. Is that the case?

Right now it seems like I have to go to System in the app and click it over to Heat or Cool to put that schedule in effect. As in if I have System on Heat 68 but the temperature gets to 74, the unit won't Cool unless I flip it to Cool.

Is that the case or am I an idiot or what?

You should have 3 choices: Heat, Cool, Auto. Use Auto

I was going to buy the ecobee3 but then found out the LAdwp has a program for a free nest with installation. It was a no brainer, and I'm very pleased with the simplicity of it.

Plus it has a lock feature so I can password protect it so my MiL can't change the temperature in my house as soon as she walks in

Reading the manual would have helped.

Had to do Menu, Scroll down to Preferences, advanced preferences, then OK a bunch of unrelated stuff until Auto Change Over showed up and hit automatic.

you'll like it. So much better than always having to change from heat to cool, especially this time of year where there's a 40 degree temperature change
