Kids Calling Parents Sir and Ma'am

I have my 3 and 2 year olds call me Sir. For example I tell them to clean their room and they say, "Yes Sir." A friend of mine thinks it's weird and disturbing they say yes Sir to me. She believes they should be saying yes Daddy or yes Dad or something else along those lines. What does the OT think? IMO kids who don't say Sir or ma'am are from trashy families.

I don't want my kids calling me sir. I never said sir or ma'am to my parents. That's for non-family.

I teach mine to "yes/no, sir/ma'am" any elder.
"Dad" is my name (or what they call me) to them. I don't want them on the streets telling Mr. John Doe "yes, Mr John".

My kids said yes sir. And I said yes sir to my dad and all elders. What is the issue? I can't stand snotty nosed punks who lacked the proper parenting.

I don't hear it a whole lot nowdays, as parents are more likely to teach their children to question authority than they are to respect it. when I do hear kids responding to their parents this way, my immediate impression is that they are top quality people.
ETA: I can also add that this varies based on the particular part of the country where you live and also whether you are in large metropolitan area vs smaller towns.

I'm with you on this one. When I see a little kid say "Yes, sir" to their parent or an adult, I automatically think that kid is being raised correctly. Are they being raised correctly? Hell if I know. But it's a good start.
