Switching to vegetarian diet

Any suggestions, books, websites? I love meat and am not sure if I can keep this up long term but I read so much about how much better you feel not eating meat and sticking to a more natural, unprocessed diet. Has anyone here successfully switched over and, if so, how do you feel about it?

ok I'm done now.
Just knowing what I know about nutrition, I never understand this move. Get away from unprocessed yes, but that doesn't mean giving up lean protein sources. You get a lot from meat. Vitamins and protein and such. Sorry I can't help with books etc.
Edit: I do have a buddy that went this route for a year. I think he expected to lose weight. He didn't.

Fat vegetarians always make me laugh.

Excluding any and all meats, you will need a vitamin B supplement because it's derived from meat sources. The vitamin B is water soluble and it will prevent issues with anemia.

If you can get the equivalent in protein from plant sources, I don't see why it matters. Your body can't tell the difference between black beans or chicken when those foods are broken down to their usable elements by the body. I know the body's metabolism has to work harder to process meats and this tends to strain your whole digestive system over time. I'm not interested in losing or gaining weight. I have always heard that you have more energy and less risk of cancer going vegetarian. May give it a shot for about six months to see how it feels.

You can't.
Nature made three kinds of animals:
Carnivore
Omnivore
Herbivore
Their bodies act differently and process differently.
Humans are omnivores. We have both sharp teeth and flat teeth.
You need both.
There is not one advantage for going vegetarian.
Cut out complex carbs and sugars and highly processed foods and fried foods, yes. But no reason to cut out all meat.
Lean beef, chicken, turkey, pork, etc.. Is all good for you.

If this is really what it's all about then why not. Everyone's body reacts differently. There's a whole "diet" plan around this. Taking away everything and slowly adding it back to document how you feel and eliminate things from your diet that you react negatively to. In general though, I don't know how much added benefit removing meat is. Like I said before you get a lot from meat in vitamins and stuff. I'd just do my research to make sure that you're adequately replacing all of those things through supplementation or the right fruits and veggies. For the record, I'm no nutritionist, but I did stay at a holiday inn express once .

These are not mutually inclusive ideas.

Mutually exclusive, you mean?

Processed foods, and carbs are what are killing you. Cut those out. No more prepared food/frozen dinners/canned goods etc. then switch to eating 70% fresh produce, and you'll notice a dramatic change

Fresh fruits and veggies are key. I rarely eat any dairy and that alone has made me feel better.
I have actually looked into this pretty hard and am considering the same for myself for a period of time. I don't think it is the actual meat that is bad for you, it is how nasty and disgusting the processing plants are for meat products now that it is such a mass industry.

Wild, I just started this, too. Beginning Day 3. Not gonna lie...it's tough. Ignore the haters, tho....nothing wrong with approaching different avenues to life

Your body only needs around 60g of protein a day. That's very easy to get on just about any diet especially a vegetarian diet.
I've done vegan during the day and only 4oz of meat at dinner. Some days I would have no animal products. Not that bad. If I was solo, I'd probably do the lifestyle knowing the health benefits but having a wife and three kids, it's just more hassle. That's why I opted to eat vegan while at work.

What are some of your favorite things to eat at work as a lunch that is vegan?

People tend to subsidize with sugar when their hunger isn't satisfied.
If you want to cut down on unhealthy snacks and processed foods, and eat more healthfully, just cut out the bad stuff and add more nutritious vegetables to your diet. You can even have a salad instead of a heavy meal for lunch or dinner.
