Very sad to hear the news today
He was very highly thought of and respected around Farrell Rd and was by all reports an all around great guy.
RIP Rocky, you will be missed

34 years old.
RIP - and let this be a reminder to us all - if you cherish your friends and family - be good to them, be there for them. One day they're here, the next day they're gone.
And the Holidays are always a double-edged sword because of this. Depression is a bitch.

I grew up across the street from Rocky and idolized him growing up. We played wiffle ball in his yard nearly every day. His parents and brother are wonderful and I cannot imagine the pain they're feeling.
He was an incredible athlete but an even better person. He was an absolute stud at the peak of his athletic career but he always made time to come visit my brother and I hanging on the fence (we were like 12 and 10 at the time) after his football games at STM.
I learned a ton from him about how to handle yourself while playing sports, and I'll pass along what I learned from him to my kids.
This one shook me up today and I'm not I'll ever make sense of it.

Prayers out to the family. I've had depression. It's no joke! Very serious

He must be older than 34. Not sure that's correct

Try to get them to open up/get help and maybe just maybe it could help
I don't understand this logic. Depression for each person can be rooted in so many different things in life, or it could be a true simple brain chemical imbalance.
Just telling that person "to get help" is treating all of these situations like an illness. I swear to you there is no pill that just cures depression. It's especially concerning that someone who "cares " about this person pushes them off to a "mental health professional" who treats them more like a lab experiment than a human being.
It takes people they know that have been there to look into the issue, or something specific to that person. Illnesses don't cause people to pull a gun trigger.
He was having a rough time with life clearly, calling it an "illness" just makes it easier for people to rationalize the real shite people encounter in this world. The things around him failed, and he lost belief in his situation, and no one stepped up to ask questions or TRULY help him out.
Sorry, I just hate the "get him the proper help". I just read, "send him to some expensive psychiatrist who will then prescribe him expensive medications that he'll depend on for the rest of his life, and he'll make pharma companies rich ".
His issues were real.

That is wrong. It's lowest in winter and highest during late Spring.

Your post is so full of ignorance, it's almost dangerous.

Remember everybody, depression is a filthy liar. It tells you that nobody cares. It tells you that the world would be better off without you. It tells you that it will never go away. If you recognize depression, you CAN tell it to shut the frick up!
Talk to people, even if it's a stranger. See a doctor. What you are experiencing is unfortunately normal for many, many people. Someone will understand. Someone will help, and that someone may not even know that they are helping.

Horrible news. So sad.

Sad, RIP! Suicide can destroy a family! Having a love one die is hard enough but it takes it to a completely different level when it's suicide.

I have known several men who took their own life. These men had financial stability and a support group if wonderful people. They did not reach out because of the shame associated with the pain they were carrying inside.
Depression is no one's fault. Sadness can happen anytime but especially during the holidays and the winter months. I have been through depression and seasonal affective disorder . The best thing to do is to talk to someone. Make a first step to reach out. It's ok to cry even if you are a man. Stress and anxiety and loneliness can make one depressed and lethargic . There are new ways to help alleviate depression and cognitive behavioral therapy shows promising results too. It's not your fault. Feel what you feel but know others have experienced depression and made it to the other side. Don't ever give up.

Known Rocky casually for 10 or so years. Great guy with a seemingly positive attitude. This is one that really shocks me. RIP my friend.

Rocky was the king of midtown here in Houston. Had so many friends and made friends wherever he went. I didn't know him too well but we would say hello whenever seeing each other out. Really sad, he was loved by a lot of people.
