Should Etling be the starter next year?

Odds are, a new offense is going to be implemented. Everybody has to learn a new playbook. Frankly, with all the experience were losing (Fournette, Dural, Dupre?, Pocic, White, Beckwith, Duke, D Thomas) I'd almost rather see one of the younger QBs get the nod in 2017. Rather than have Etling learning a new system and then start an inexperienced QB in 2018.

We shall wait for Lord Kiffin to decide

The kid passes for over 300 yards, 54 points, 622 Total Offense! The kid is getting better and better!

Guy just threw for 300 plus. Damn son. Let the guy lay.

He has grown so much, I'd say yes. You can run spread without a dt quarterback. I think what we will see next year is more akin to bama pre hurts, or an ole miss type spread.

It really depends on what flavor of spread we are talking about. He is probably the most accurate passer out of the current QBs and those incoming. If we aren't going rely a ton on QB run in year one, then he might be ok. If it is a power spread, he may not be a good fit. Etling has ok speed, but he doesn't have the build to withstand that kind of punishment in the SEC.
I have a feeling we will see multiple QBs next year by design. With none completely fitting the bill, and 2 good ones being very young (but not Jalen Hurts, either), then I bet we have packages for a couple of guys.

Yes. He just put on one of the best passing performances in recent LSU memory.

I was on Alleva's short list. Didn't have a damn binder though.

Because experience is over rated?

That's not saying a whole lot. We get a 300 yard Passer once every 14 games or so.

Lord Brennan may have a say so if he gets early enrollment
Posted on 11/26/16 at 9:52 pm to Lsuhoohoo
He absolutely should, for 2 reasons.
First, he has managed the game well and is clearly improving as the year goes on.
Second, the worst thing you could do is put someone in too early and have him get destroyed due to being started too early. I will use Jarrett Lee as an example. Kid had potential but was started too early due to discipline issues with others. Lee could have been great but was started too soon.
Let the new guys learn and come in during blowouts of lesser teams.

We may only lose Pocic, Boutte, Fournette, and Dural on offense. Dural has been almost useless since the emergence of Chark. Dupre has not really performed at a level that's going to get him big bucks, but he could show out at a combine. If we get an OC that can make him more of a factor, he will stay.
Considering the qb is on that side of the ball, I think you roll with Etling unless there is clearly a better option. He realistically should have won every game except for the Bama game. I am not opposed to whatever ideas a new OC has, but I don't see any glaring issues with the way Etling has operated.

Surely we can find some kid that was 2nd string at Mamou ... we need a QB that sounds like us and stuff ... someone who really loves LSU.

Danny certainly has a leg up, given his experience. And I guess if he looks the best man for the job, it's his. But a Lindsey Scott will be a RSFR. If he and Etling are neck and neck, do you go with experience or the man with several more years to play.

I don't know the answer but think we definitely should decide this tonight.
