I need to buy a new headlight before duck season starts. Anybody have any recommendations for a good one?

Screw that shite 20 bucks on amazon. I don't ever use flashlights anymore. They are awesome.

yes and no
Black Diamond and Petzl are both top knotch - depending on the model your looking at. Have owned both and would buy either one again based on features. Princeton's are also good and seem to last as well as the other two.
Caution: Lumens include both how far the beam will travel as well as disperse... so the distance rating is often of more importance if traveling through the woods is your goal. A spot LED and flood LED combo is my favorite. Red light option is nice in order to not blind your companions around a campsite or at meal time.

I like cheap. I was looking at those on Amazon. How long do the batteries last? I want one that's bright as hell. My hunting partner has a Stream Light one that's like a spot light, but it runs through expensive hard to find batteries. Ideally, I'd like one brighter than him and a lot cheaper so I can give him shite all the time about it.

Agree with this, I've got a couple of each. Favorite is a black diamond but it's also the newest.

I just bought a black diamond 320 lumen from sportsmans wherehouse in Slidell. Things bad arse. Feel like I have a q beam on my head. Fwiw I checked before I bought it and it was the same price Amazon prime.

Nitecore @ amazon $61
Its a copy of Zebralight's h600 which is a 100+ light sans charger and battery. I have both and prefer this one. I never go anywhere without it. FYI, two choices are "cool white" and "neutral white". Cool will be a little brighter but will have a bluish tint. Neutral will be a little less bright but with more daylight like color. I have the cool and would buy it again.

Kelly's K-light Beakon.
It's what I coon hunt with. Plenty bright enough to drive a boat with and the battery easily lasts a full nights hunt. I bought it to coon hunt and use the damned thing for EVERYTHING. You never realize how much you'll use a bad arse head light till you have one. Frogging, driving the boat, working on the truck, putting out decoys, power outsges, the list goes on.
A few other good coon light brands that can double as Q beams: Nite lite, boss light, Cajun light, and many others. Get a cap light with the battery on the cap.

Ozark Trail 150-Lumen Multi-Color Headlamp
$13 at Walmart and I haven't found one that beat it yet for it's price and application. 3 AAA batteries last for 5-6 hours and it's bright bright. My dad and I have a few each in our boats and trucks.

$40 at academy is probably your best all around.
BUT, I'd say hot glue a sealed beam into an old hard hat. Can't beat it.
