Not looking good, that's for sure. Not too optimistic about this season because of the long term forecast.

Anxious to see the first surveys. Should get those in about a week I would imagine.

Early forecast for Coastal opener is showing 72/55. Not bad. That being said, I rode my marsh lease today and didn't see a single bird.

We worked on blinds In the Gueydan/Klondike area this weekend. We saw a few ducks, but not many. And some specks were moving around. But, the area is very dry. If you have water, you may be able to shoot some ducks.

Rode our marsh this afternoon near Holly Beach and didn't see a bird. Neighbor down the road said they saw abunch of birds in their marsh over the weekend... teal, greys and widgeon. Looks like theres a little cool front in the 15 day forecast FWIW.

This is the best our marsh has looked in 5+ years. Lots of grass in our ponds.

Already scheduled a hunt in Texas. Not looking to good in the marsh. Had about 25 ducks on the lease this weekend. Usually have 100's by now.

Scouted Oklahoma yesterday. No water or ducks, as expected. We're going to pass on the opener next weekend and look for some birds in NE TX.

Yeah well a lot can happen over night. If no birds are around for the opener, I'll just catch some fish.

If we don't get rain it will be a good year for the marsh guys because a lot of birds won't have water to hold on in north la, Arkansas, texas, or Oklahoma. Statistically you would think this winter has to be better than last year but who knows. As of right now if it doesn't rain I will deer hunt and fish until the second split in Arkansas.

Teal season 2.0 this Saturday with a few Greys and Pintails that will now be legal but sadly have to watch the Mottled Ducks just fly by and get blind shy. There are quite a few ducks in SE Texas but they are all in the marsh and with the only water being there or in the pumped fields, how long they stick around after getting blasted is the big ?

Yes, anybody with water will have birds but they won't hold long and won't take pressure with limited areas. Most farmers usually wait to catch a rain to flood up but with no rain in sight how many fields north of the coast will hold water? If this holds and some cold weather sets in up north the marsh will be real good.

In all seriousness this sucks. Sure, if the forecast doesn't look good for ducks we can deer hunt, play golf, fish, whatever. But every day not hunted is a wasted day out of our 60 that we don't get back. I realize this coming winter and last winter are odd balls but this sucks. I really hope things start to cool down quickly or we are in for another shitty season.
