opening weekend Duck predictions
Posted by lbarfi1 on 10/30/16 at 8:41 pm
it was over 90 degrees today, need some cold weather bad. What are ya'lls predictions for opening weekend in two weeks?
sounds like you need to look into getting a duck lease. And a camp out in the marsh, time stops out there
re: Why don't teal like south central/ southeast LA marsh?
Posted by lbarfi1 on 9/12/16 at 11:51 am to 4mileduckman
Our marsh is more fresh than it is salty, we catch bass and bream on the lease now, which a few years back no way that was possible. Hopefully this north wind over the next few days will push a few down
Why don't teal like south central/ southeast LA marsh?
Posted by lbarfi1 on 9/12/16 at 11:42 am
Can anyone give me some kind of explanation to this? On my lease in Dularge we have phenomenal big duck seasons (all we shoot is gray ducks and greenwings but i'll take whatever I can get) but as far as teal season we never have jack sh$t, while southwest LA seems to always be loaded down with birds this time of year, it seems like the only place those blue rockets like down this-a-way is Venice. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why those birds just don't come to us in September? Marsh looks great, weather is still too hot, but rode the entire area saturday and may have seen 40-50 birds. not enough to even think about hunting, and thats every year

nothing in Dularge saturday morning, but we hardly ever do well out there for teal season. Last year we managed 15 on opening day but it was 65 degrees that morning when we woke up. I made the mistake of only bringing flip flops and had to stand in ankle deep water all morning because the water was so high in the marsh. Wasn't expecting to see anything at all to be honest but we saw around 40 to 50 total flying around, at least that's a plus. Should have brought a rod in the blind because the redfish were slapping at the decoys all morning

Mississippi River Catfishing
Posted by lbarfi1 on 8/10/16 at 3:39 pm
Anyone ever tried catfishing in the Mississippi River? Hell I live right across the street from it, I wouldn't mind trying to catch a big nasty river monster from the bank one afternoon
Anyone have a Minn Kota Copilot or Ipilot? need help
Posted by lbarfi1 on 7/31/16 at 11:31 pm
I just got this Minn Kota Copilot for my boat and after getting some work done to it, I mounted it on the boat and it worked fine last weekend down in Fourchon. Had no issues and was very impressed with it. Went down to the camp in Dularge this weekend to do a little fishing. Got to the first spot, plugged it in and heard the normal "BEEP" it always gives then started to use the remote and everything was fine until I lowered it into the water and it worked for a few seconds then just quit on me. I messed with the trolling motor as much as I could on the water and nothing was happening it just would not work. Pushed the "test" button on the trolling motor and it showed full battery. It was working fine and then all of a sudden nothing.... no beeps no nothing.... Has anyone ever had this issue before?? I am hoping it is just a dead remote battery because all of my connections seem to be fine. any help is greatly appreciated because it put a huge hamper on the fishing trip.... can't do much sight fishing without a trolling motor
yeah but you are always talking on the phone dude, I've got work to do
anyone got any mangrove tips?
Posted by lbarfi1 on 7/26/16 at 3:30 pm
Was down in Fourchon this past weekend and with the weather so calm we decided to hit the first rigs off of the beach for some mangroves. In 2 days we landed 20 nice ones, but probably broke off three times that many. Also we would get them going and then they would go up to the live croaker, mullet, pogy, or whatever and just look at it and turn away. We were only in 50 feet of water and being that all I've got is a 22 foot Bay Boat I don't wanna go out any further than that, but the mangrove thing would be fun to do a few times a year, anyone got any tips on how to catch limits of these things? Every time I have done it, we are happy with 10 or so a morning
Heading to the camp!
Posted by lbarfi1 on 7/8/16 at 11:05 pm
With all of this craziness going on here in Baton Rouge, sounds like a great weekend to head to the camp! Who else is rolling out to enjoy some peace and serenity (and maybe a few fish)
this crazy May weather and trout fishing
Posted by lbarfi1 on 5/3/16 at 12:43 am
So according to the forecasts, its showing weather to be in the 50s for the next couple of days... first time I've ever witnessed this is May, but wonder if that is gunna affect those trout that had already moved offshore? caught 95 smaller ones, but they were keepers at the rigs south of Cocodrie last Saturday. I thought it was about to blow up over the next few weeks, but this weather has me thinking. Anyone know what a cold spell this late does to the trout that have already moved to the islands and rigs?
re: Charter fishing in Cabo.
Posted by lbarfi1 on 5/3/16 at 12:33 am to Hermit Crab
I went a few summers ago with RedRum charters. It was a cool experience. caught one black marlin and a huge thresher shark, but that is just a slow slow kind of fishing. I never go offshore so i took some seasickness medicine and literally passed out from the time we left the dock, woke up to reel in a marlin, then passed back out till we got back. don't think the offshore thing is for me
how did you do yesterday afternoon? 1.7 foot tide saturday after its been slack all week.... 5 mph north winds, setting up perfect
trout fishing
Posted by lbarfi1 on 4/18/16 at 12:22 pm
Looks like we are finally getting some good calm weather this upcoming weekend. I'll be heading out to the islands out of Dularge Saturday morning. anyone else heading offshore this weekend chasing trout?? A little early but the big ones should be on the beaches by now. Strong south winds all week should bring in some clean water, i've got my fingers crossed
Camp insulation Help
Posted by lbarfi1 on 4/9/16 at 7:08 pm
Hey guys I've got a camp in the middle of the marsh that is essentially a metal shack kinda like a quanza hut on posts 10 feet off of the water. We noticed how unbearable it is to be in the camp during the summer when it is so hot even with two air conditioning units and in the winter when it is very cold it is impossible to keep the heat in from a small heater. We sprayed foam insulation all over the metal walls and thankfully the camp is only about 20 feet long and 15 or so feet wide but we came up short on our spraying. There is probably about a 5th of the metal wall on the camp that needs to be finished sprayed. We also walled in the front and back walls with the pink roll up insulation and covered with plywood. We have noticed a huge difference in keeping the cold air and warm air inside from the insulation but still when the sun comes out, it is noticeable that the remaining metal walls warm up the inside of the camp a good bit. I was wandering if you guys knew of a cheaper alternative to finishing the spray insulation other than spending another 500$-600$ on another purchase of spray insulation because we just don't need that much more. We would probably only us a 1/5th of that purchase to finish the camp. If you guys know of anything else we could do or find a smaller amount of spray foam insulation please let me know
