It's in the rules. So yeah, technically the SEC has said this.

Exactly. So some clarification is needed, huh?

7-1 = higher winning percentage, so that trumps in the tie-breaker.
but there's no "tie" because teams haven't played the same number of games. Therefore, the tiebreaker doesn't kick in.
100% chance that LSU and UF will be forced to play, if either one is still in the mix. The SEC won't allow a team to win their division without playing their full SEC schedule.
Just no way that will happen.

I'd bet every penny I owe and even my children's lives that the SEC won't allow a team to go to Atlanta if they haven't played all their conference games

quote:In this scenario, I would approve of going Ole Missish and hanging an SEC champs banner.
Beat the shite out of everybody and run up the score as much as possible. If no SEC championship then so be it. It will still be a fun year and the SEC will know who the best team was.

And if it's not a possibility..........we don't get in.
IF we run the table.

quote:The SEC rules dont say anything about if its not a possibility. They simply say 8 games shall be played.
And if it's not a possibility
So the SEC either has to announce the game is being played, or announce another way to determine the champion. Simply sitting and doing nothing will be a contradiction to the rules

Relax, Francis, I was exaggerating to make a point.

Thanks for the clarification, I wasn't sure, thought maybe you actually would.
Appreciate it!!!

They've already said 7-1 makes it over 6-1They actually came out and said that? Link?
Ask the 1972 Auburn Tigers who was SEC Champ. Even though they beat Alabama, the Tide played one more game.

The SEC rules dont say anything about if its not a possibility
quote:
Per SEC rules, if teams don’t play the same number of games, the team with the higher win percentage goes to the championship game
quote:Doesn't that quote in the rules(assuming it's there, based on the Advocate link) tell us everything we need to know?
or announce another way to determine the champion

From SEC Bylaw 30.22.1.3:
The Conference champion will be determined by a game between the two division champions. The team in each division with the highest percentage of wins during all regular-season conference competition will be declared division champion.

I think they'd move the championship and have us play florida if that happened

Here's the SEC constitution and bylaws for 2016-2017.

I can't find a single reference to a requirement that the teams play an equal number of games, etc. I go back to my previous point -- all tiebreaker rules are irrelevant if there is not a tie.
So where is the by-law or rule that states the division winner is selected based on winning percentage?

Current SEC bylaw 30.22.1.3:
30.22.1.3 Conference Championships. Conference championships are subject to the following:
(a) A Conference champion shall be determined annually in each of the sports listed in Bylaw 30.22.1.1. The method of determining the Conference champion for each of these sports shall be provided for in the Commissioner’s Regulations of each sport. When two institutions tie for a championship and no championship play-off is held, these institutions shall be declared co-champions; and
(b) A member institution’s team or teams, prohibited by the Southeastern Conference or the NCAA from participating in postseason competition in a given sport, shall not be eligible for a Conference championship and participation in a Conference season-ending event (e.g., game, tournament, meet) in that sport for the
duration of this prohibition. [Revised 6/1/12]
ETA: There is nothing about wins/win pct.
