Someone told me that some were saying Notre Dame.
Serious.
Serious.

I posted that already.
He will do well.
they should pull the trigger now so he can get recruiting going.

Why?? I think this would be a huge coup for Miles given his firing in mid season. And as someone else pointed out, he can play his style of fb there.

Not at $100,000. But he can probably negotiate at the lower end of a range of reasonable numbers. Any evidence of an agreement to bump him up after the LSU payout ends could be a problem. But done in a way that doesn't push the envelope, it's probably a fine strategy for him and his next employer.
better have that talk above Vodoo BBQ off the record lol
Thanks makes sense.
I wonder if contract writer even tries to add definition of what reasonable is

Miles must make a "good faith effort" to find alternative employment.
Whatever that means.
Whatever that means.

Read an ARTICLE last night that said the 2 best jobs for Miles would be Penn State or Houston (assuming Herman leaves, obviously).
I would rather him at Penn State for sure. He would probably pull a couple of recruits that we'd be fighting for if he were at Houston.. Even if we did end up with Herman.

If Notre Dame still recruits nationally he is more scary there

Does the big10 fit the big 10 anymore?

Penn State is a great program and a great job. Their team sucks right now, but that is in large part due to the JoPa, Sandusky thing and Franklin's inability to turn it around.

My Mom's whole side of the family are Penn Staters and they are on board with Les over Franklin

If the salary amount was super low, LSU would likely have recourse
I would think they would not unless their is some sort of clause regarding him seeking new employment.

This is not a new or original idea. Big 10 guy goes back to big 10.

It's a term that has some amount of interpretational jurisprudence behind it. It's a fairly low standard. Other terms that a contract might use to impose a higher standard would be "best efforts", "commercially reasonable efforts" or "reasonable efforts." All are legal terms of art that have their separate (though no doubt overlapping) meanings.

He is better than Pollack. I will give him that.

usually the buyout agreements have a requirement that the fired coach seek out market value options to offset the buyout amount. so if miles did go after another head coaching job, he couldn't lowball it to screw LSU. i think even media jobs have the same sort of requirement/offset language

Agreed. But in every situation there's a range of prices/salaries that would be "market", not just one number. And that range at Penn State isn't the same as the range at Alabama or Univ. of Maine. So, my only points are (i) he doesn't have to hit the top or even the middle of the range if he's happy to fill in the difference with the net LSU payout, and (ii) he's not under an obligation to take a job he really doesn't want (or he hinks isn't a good fit) even if it might pay more than the one he does want.

If I was Penn State I would pull the Brinks truck right up to his house
They are on the verge of being a completely irrelevant college football program. Like zero relevance
They need a move and its not a bad move

Then there’s the elephant in the room: He’s 0-7 against Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State and is coming off a 49-10 drubbing at the hands of the Wolverines. There were sanctions, and it takes time to build a program, but in Year 3, there is no way Michigan (whose coach is in his second season, by the way) should be 39 points better than Penn State.

oh for sure
i think the market sorts itself out here. coaches are highly competitive alpha types so they don't typically just pack it in. i don't think les would do that, either. i think he still has juice in the tank and will want to prove himself

i think it just matters, as you said, on the level of job he takes
if he goes to PSU he's going to have to get paid pretty well. they're paying Franklin over $4M (per a google search i just did). i doubt les could sell LSU on taking THAT much less than what they just paid Franklin (certainly more than $100k). i'd imagine $3M would be the floor for a major BCS program like PSU
now if he goes to a Houston or even a Kentucky? it's going to be a bit lower
