re: Three years in: Lincoln Riley or Brian Kelly?

I am as big of a Jaray homer as anyone. One of my favorite tigers and have a few personal connections to the young man. I was in the stands during the catch and prevented some of my group from leaving the game early when things looked bleak.
But my brother, those are two fully extended hands. To pretend like just it didn't happen at all is unserious.

Three years in: Lincoln Riley or Brian Kelly?
Posted by Bandit18 on 12/1/24 at 7:17 pm
Only three years ago, the LSU tigers ended their season 6-7 (bolstered by an improbable last second Max Johnson TD pass to beat AtM) (aided by a no call push off by Jayray Jenkins getting separation).
The tigers needed a new coach. At that time, many posters confirmed: “it’s Riley.”
Oklahoma State even trolled Riley and OU by blasting “Calling Baton Rouge” after beating the Sooners that year.
Then Riley “went soft,” “ran from the SEC” and took the job at USC. It felt like Brian Kelly was a consolation.
With three years of hindsight these are their coaching records:
Riley and USC
2022: 11-3 (Heisman Winner)
2023: 8-5
2024: 6-6
Total 25-14
Kelly and LSU
2022: 10-4
2023: 10-3 (Heisman Winner)
2024: 8-4
Total 28-11
After three years, Kelly (28-11) has a moderately better record than Riley (25-14). Kelly has performed in a much more difficult conference. And both coaches have 1 Heisman winner.
With the benefit of hindsight: who would you rather have leading the program going into 2025? Kelly or Riley?

Lane Kiffin complained about my other sign.
At the first blown call today, Jay should send Wanaka to go full classic Earl Weaver

Earl Weaver ejection- “this crew is just here to f*ck us”
Wanaka spike - ball don’t lie
Umps bad. Tigers good. Monster’s Mashing.

McGlotherin was pushed out, so I actually feel a little bad for him.
Ricks, on the other hand, is an absolute joke and deserves to be laughed at.

The guys did it on top of victory hill as well. Definitely enjoying themselves.

should have stuck it out and competed. he quit WAY too early in the process.
If he's paying out of pocket to be on a team that he can't make, I don't necessarily blame him for "quitting". Not sure if he had TOPS available. College isn't as affordable as it used to be.
Seems like a great opportunity for the folks over at Walkons to sweep in with a NIL scholarship deal for a Walk on in need.

Cliffs:
Cage said he is a Louisiana guy and LSU was his dream school. Tyrann was his favorite player of all time (also shouted out Jamal Adams).
He played through a knee injury just to be able to play against bama.
He wasn't on scholarship at LSU and (apparently) wasn't going to have a shot at meaningful playing time.
He spoke highly of coach Kelly and staff, wouldn't say a bad thing about LSU.
He's looking for a place where he can showcase his skillset and try to make the league. He would like to stay on the big stage in the SEC, but is looking for an FBS opportunity to show what he can do.
He really wanted that place to be at LSU.
Wishing this young man all of the best (as long as he isn't lined up against the P&G).

Bregman no question. Won SEC championships and took the team to Omaha.

Qualities in an OC
The ability to consistently score points against competent defenses.

Because Herman was still under contract with Houston and wouldn't walk out before his last game there
Herman was also probably still trying to hold out on the chance he got his dream job at UT.
Concerned if we pursue but strike out on Kiffin.

If I were Lane Kiffin, I would not leave Alabama in the middle of a playoff run where I could win a national championship.
Under that assumption, if we pursue Kiffin until Jan. 9th, but he is offered a well paying position as a HC somewhere, who to we turn to as our "next man up" for OC?
If we wait until after Jan 9, what top offensive minds do we expect to be available?

I agree but you counter to make Texas EARN it. We let them off the hook.
It appears JA would rather make Herman "pay" by losing 2 mil per year than to make UT "pay."
Once JA pulled out, Herman lost his leverage and a few million dollars as well.
