My 2 cents about his rankings. He places way too much emphasis on # of Heisman Trophy winners for a program. Also, he fails to take into account that some of these teams piled up much of their wins vs weak conf. opponents (Oklahoma & Nebraska had 6 automatic wins for decades playing in the Big 2 & Little 6 Conference. Texas did the same in the Seriously Weak Conference.)

"Relatively speaking, Nebraska has enjoyed more recent success." This about a program that hasn't even won a conference title this century? The Cornhuskers are a has-been.

"The Wolverines fall short of their fellow blue bloods in national championships with only two." Yet LSU, w/ 3 nat'l titles, is ranked below UM?

So about 3 years ago I posted this article where ESPN ranked every FBS program based on the entire history of the program. Factors considered were number of national championships and number of Heisman winners. ESPN designated the top 8 programs as "blue-bloods" and place LSU at #9 right outside of "blue blood" territory. My question is, if LSU can finish off this season with Burrow winning the Heisman and the Tigers winning the NC, does LSU deserve to jump Nebraska (#8) and/or Texas (#7) into blue bood territory?

I didn’t think anyone ever considered us as a blue blood because we aren’t. It really doesn’t mean anything either.

90's did us in . If we would have been merely a steady bowl team, looks a lot different

If we are talking football royalty and looking at the past, why isn’t Princeton at the top? Nebraska is teetering on the edge of obscurity for the foreseeable future; USC’s football program is in danger of following in the steps of a once great baseball program. At this point who cares about USC? Past history is fun to talk about, but when your program is largely irrelevant it is hard to get excited about it.

Well, we will have another Heisman winner this season barring injury or some kind of miracle. Burrow is going to win it. We also might have another natty title next to our name as well. frick Dem.

I will add this as well...we are not even close to being done either. We haven't seen the full potential of our program yet like most of the teams on that list have already experienced. We will see the true golden age of LSU football here before long. I feel it coming and orgeron will lead us to the promised Land. We comin'.

I think ESPNs definition of “Blue Blood” isn’t the same thing most of us mean when we talk about Blue Bloods. Oklahoma and Nebraska maybe historic programs but they certainly don’t get the same exceptional treatment that teams like Ohio State, USC and Alabama get.

I cant argue with the list. Ask the same question in 10-20 years.

I am proud of LSU at 9. That's a great compliment

We’re usually 10-12 on these lists. Usually around Florida, uga, penn state and teams like that. A fair comparison but the mid80s-mid90s really hurt us

Another heisman and national championship would certainly help.

I'm fine with LSU in the top 10 for that ranking but Nebraska as a "Blue Blood"?...

LSU is a Blue Blood program, and has been one since Y.A. Tittle in the 1940's.

Not even a byline on that clueless article. Tells me that no one was willing to put their name on that mindless drivel.

LSU really needs to claim the 1908 title, NCAA even recognizes them on their website...

LINK

LSU was the most western school to win the NC at the time, all schools before that were the Ivy League, Rutgers, Chicago and Michigan, until Texas A&M won it in 1919...

LSU has everything it needs to be a blue blood program.

Just need more championships and consistency.

No other program offers the combo of in state talent, facility, power conference, money, leadership (now) and fanbase support

I’ll take top ten especially considering we are the second ranked school out of the SEC on this list.
