For the NFL season to finish? Think they have a verbal agremeent with a current coach? Why else would they drag their feet like this?
Posted on 12/14/07 at 11:16 am to Helmethead
I told you guys from the beginning they said they were in no hurry to hire a coach

The dead period in recruiting is about to start. Why rush? Make sure you get it right.

Yeah .... they have no reason to rush into it. Carr will coach the bowl game, the recruits won't leave and they can wait til after the bowl games and NFL season to see what shakes out.

Yup they've just been saying they want to hire the right guy...So they are being very diligent about the whole situation...(Supposedly)

My sources say.................

could be an nfl guy. that makes sense. OR, they could be waiting for the Hat to win the national championship.

i am not doubting you bpar, at all, you are the man with the info. I am just speculating on the WHY. recurits will stay, Carr gets respect, i get that, they are Michigan, i get that also. My question remains with, if you wait without a pretty good feeling on a specific guy, don't you run the risk of getting a last resort coach?

Razorbacks didn't let this slow them down.

Exactly. Michigan can wait for a good coach. Most coachs won't abandon thier team before the season is over.

A&M also hired a NFL guy...and let him finish the season with the Texans...IMO the right way to do it...Don't bail like Petrino.

Urban Meyer or NFL coach...

Les Miles is LSU's Coach. Didn't know if you knew that or not...Just thought I'd let you know.

Yeah look what Arkansas rushed into..

As we wait, here is what I think has/is happening:
Miles was never the #1 target for Mich. The media just stampeded him to the front.
Meyer was/is the target. Yet he cannot be approached until 12/1 (his contract restricts his interface with suitors to a specific time each year)
Martin was in FLA "sailing" the weekend of 12/1
ESPN hurled a bomb, Miles needs to react, while Mich is just having its first discussion with its top candidate - how do you tell Les he is the back-up plan and still keep him in the game/not tip your hand? Not possible, Mich just keeps quiet
Bowl selections made, Mich will be spending a week in FLA with top candidate -- no rush now
Tuesday, Lloyd and Meyer meet in Orlando to sign bowl contract -- lots of flirting going on there
Meanwhile all's quiet on the Mich recruiting front no undue turbulence/media scrutiny of/in either the Mich or FLA programs -- ideal scenario
Game gets played, focus on teams and Lloyd's last hurrah (maybe some AD to candidate discussions masked by the bowl hoopla)
Then time for closing the deal
Don't know, just saying, but the evidence is mounting that somthing like this is going on.

belowpar, it's clear you don't know shite about michigan's search

Never claimed I did...
I was told that Bill Martin himself said word for word, that they were not in a rush to hire someone and they would take their time to find the right candidate....This was a couple weeks ago though.

Michigan's fans can't stand it right now but this is the midwestern way. No need to rush, take time, consider all angles, strip all passion from the process, etc. I wonder how anyone in the midwest ever gets married.

I think you nailed the situation right on.
