It's easier to win at UM than the SEC. In the SEC, you have LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee contending every year, and Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, and South Carolina to worry about upsetting you.
At Michigan, you have to beat Notre Dame, tOSU, and then worry about Wisconsin and Penn State every couple of years.
The path to a MNCG is much easier through the Big 10.

You're right on.

Would be ironic that the coach that choked on 12/1 in the big game--granted his starting QB went out--that gave Les a chance at the NC game once again would end up at Michigan.

Would be a great hire. This guy can coach and recruit. Love the WV defense and if UM wants changes - going to the spread instead of the pro set on O would be very dramatic.

I'd imagine Les would like to be at UM. Blame Bill Martin for that and Kirk Herbstreit
........
You are right on I agree. My carpetbagger comment is just sour grapes because Miles seems like a great coach and person. He refused to make the move to his alleged dream job when his current team had a SEC and National Championship within reach. He is to be commended.

I don't see RR going to UM

Me either. RR went to WV and that is where he wants to be - unlike the carpetbagger Les Miles.

Miles was never the #1 target for Mich. The media just stampeded him to the front.
Martin was in FLA "sailing" the weekend of 12/1 ESPN hurled a bomb, Miles needs to react, while Mich is just having its first discussion with its top candidate - how do you tell Les he is the back-up plan and still keep him in the game/not tip your hand? Not possible, Mich just keeps quiet
Meanwhile all's quiet on the Mich recruiting front no undue turbulence/media scrutiny of/in either the Mich or FLA programs -- ideal scenario
Game gets played, focus on teams and Lloyd's last hurrah (maybe some AD to candidate discussions masked by the bowl hoopla)
Then time for closing the deal

I think you nailed the situation right on.

You really think Miles is lying to everyone?
I don't.

They knew Carr was going to retire sooner or later and Carr was honest about that. They are coming because its a great university (like LSU) to be a part of, play sports at, and earn a degree from. They might lose a few but there will be others to step right in.

Are you guys really this nervous nellies? Why?
You are going to the Championship Game with a great future with or without Miles. But he's already closed the door on Michigan and said he's staying at LSU but you're still worried? WTF?

Petrino hire has to tick off Michigan fans.

Allegedly Petrino called UM but UM wasn't interested (for better or worse).

You are correct, sir. But why is the speculation so sinister. Could it be that as a loving alum, Miles felt compelled to clear the air with UM, to wish them well, and when asked, he offered his opinion on possible candidates. Instead, a steady stream of bashing has evolved based on no evidence. A phone call in itself, does not equal to making himself a candidate. You really think Miles was simply making recommendations?
------------
"Sinister"?
To speculate that Miles speaking to the U of M President and AD was about the possibility of Miles being interested in the job? Is that really sinister speculation? Or is it common sense?

Actually from everything that I've read Michigan (the AD at least) didn't want Miles at all. Certainly didn't want him enough to return Miles' calls on Dec 1.

Miles has NO BUSINESS talking to Michigan if he is not interested in going there...........
He needs to have NO CONTACT with them at all until they hire a coach........
------------
You sound like a jealous lover. Miles can talk to whoever he wants to but relax - its over. He's obvioulsy staying at LSU.

I'm tired of this trash. It's time we fought fire with fire. Start rumors that UM has contacted Lou Holtz. Ten bucks says Detroit Free press runs with it.

Hey - idiot. It wasn't a "RUMOR". Miles did speak with Michigan as he himself acknowledged.

"Well since LM is staying at LSU, he could really help himself out but not talking to MICH. Why fan the flames? Why create a story for the press? Why not just SHUT UP!"
-------------------
because Miles, as he himself stated, loves Michigan and always will be a Michigan Man.

It is the Detroit Free Press!
---------
Hey idiot - the newpaper was quoting Speilman's interview on a radio station. It has nothing to do with the newspaper itself.
Just like when the same newspaper reported that UM spoke with Miles last week - they were simply reporting what happened - it did indeed happen.
But anyway Speilman makes some interesting points.

I think when Miles was at Okie S he was just talking to LSU by helping them in their search for a head coach.
