How is it? Sold my last boat that I have been having for 11 years. Not sure what my next step is. Haven't had time to fish as much. Wife, 3 kids, and running takes up a lot of time. I know I will want another boat when my son gets older, but it feels weird not having a boat in my driveway!

Like I said I will get another one. Not sure when. Probably a shallow water/flats boat.

Been thinking the same thing. Haven't had my boat out in months, been too busy. Wife wants to sell it but just won't look or feel right without it in yard. But will save a lot of money.

Wife, 3 latter age teen kids, 2 dogs, 4 vehicles, mortgage, 2 camps......
I couldn't imagine life without my boat! I guess having a family that loves everything about the outdoors helps!!!!

I would suggest getting a kayak, paddleboard, pirogue, canoe or even an inflatable type boat (they make very durable/reliable inflatables you might be surprised if you haven't checked them out

From my point of view I can surely relate to your situation. I sold my boat and downsized to a flat boat with a trolling motor. I can't get around like i used to but i still have productive fishing trips. I also have a pirogue and found it a lot of fun to find lakes off the normal path and drag a half mile or so through the woods to find a remote spot.

For me my concentration is fishing, the compromise I make is that I will head out every weekend either on Saturday or Sunday and leave about an hour before sunrise, get on the water as soon as the visibility is enough for comfort and head out. In the summer when the bite is early I can be back home by 8:30. By this time the wife and daughter are usually just finishing up breakfast and they are ready to start the day. Hop in the shower and then we don't miss a beat. I also find that I will take opportunities even small 1-2 hour round trips into neighborhood lakes that are very close when the wife goes shopping.

Just because you are turning in the larger craft doesn't mean you don't have to go to nothing. Electric motors are very cheap to maintain on a flat boat or pond prowler and paddlecraft are even cheaper - one time cost.

Also consider a party barge - you can then take the whole family - assuming you are not selling for financial reasons.

From one dad to another I wish you the best with your decision.

An example of how we think. My son wanted a Bass boat for graduation. His grandmother from NELA commented he could get a brand new truck for same price. My sons reply, "I'd rather have a boat, all of my friends are getting trucks, I can find someone willing to pull my boat if I take them fishing."

Let wife and kids keep each other occupied so you can concentrate on running faster in order to free up more time for boating.

I'm sure you won't miss two pumps going at once like I had to watch this morning. It's all worth it though haha

Kayak, final answer. Low initial cost. Literally zero maintenance costs. Who cares if it sits for 3 months between uses?

We live in an area with friends and in laws who live on several different small lakes. My sons enjoyed bank fishing for bass for years. This made for more line in the water more often. Yes, the boat we bought allowed the boys to start taking trips to various rivers and larger lakes but catching bass anywhere is a blast.

Boats is like your penis, just because you get married, have kids, etc and dont use it as much, doesnt mean you get rid of it, you just have to find time, and some times force it.....

Run 4 days a week....but do it early in the morning. Keep boat. Fish on the 3 days a week that you don't run.

Stay trim...and catch fish. Win win.
