This. The stupid bar exam is nothing.

Perfect candidate for a top-tier East Coast-based law firm. Who wouldn't hire her?

It's $180K now unless she had an offer from a crappy firm.

Mr. Gore, I attempted to avoid Reddit in an effort to reduce my carbon footprint. Yet, despite my efforts Reddit was thrust upon me, undoubtedly causing irreparable harm to the environment. I believe this harm can be assuaged by you depositing the paltry sum of $10 million into the bank account of my choosing.

All the qualities people would want in a lawyer I suppose.

Plaintiff Tamara Wyche

Excuse me judge, I'm going to need to be given 50% more time than opposing counsel to make my opening and closing arguments and I'll need everyone to leave the room when I do so.

Excuse me client, I'm going to need to bill you 50% more hours on this project increasing your costs by 50% over a comparable attorney. It just takes me more time to figure things out.

Excuse me senior partner, I'm going to need to take a 20 minute break every hour while everyone else continues this document review. It's just too stressful to work for more than a few minutes at a time. I'm sure my coworkers won't mind.

I hate this shite at law school

Accommodating for cognitive issues in a competitive and academic environment is idiotic. If you get in a wreck and you want the law school to hold your spot during recovery, fine. Same for an employer.

But if your issues keep you from performing in a quality and timely manner? Absolutely not. I think if you take accommodations in law school (for stuff like this, not people who need wheelchair access or a braille computer) you should be forced to forfeit your class ranking.

So could I have sued if I had failed the PE and lost my job as a result?

According to the complaint, Tamara Wyche claims the New York State Board of Law Examiners violated the Americans With Disabilities Act when they refused to provide special accommodations to her when she sat for the bar exam. Wyche claims to suffer from depression and anxiety disorder, in addition to cognitive difficulties, including memory loss, as the result of a 2009 ATV accident.

Well if the NY state bar examiners violated whatever process they have for granting accommodations, then it sounds like she has a pretty good case.

Bar exam format is dumb af anyway. Has any lawyer ever had to write a 5+ page memo off the top of their head in 2 hours or less?

I mean shite, anyone can pass the fricking LA bar. All you have to do is memorize the last 2 or 3 iterations of the test answers. You don't need any formal legal education at all.

She's not a lawyer. She hasn't passed or been admitted to the bar.

I sort of agree but it's a decent way of testing one's ability to prepare for something difficult and perform under pressure.

Plus NY is magnitudes more difficult than LA obviously

I'd point out your error in this sentence, but Chicken said we are to give you accommodations due to your dyslexia.

She passed on her third try last year. She's suing because her second failure (she was granted 50% extra time and a smaller testing room but no extra time for breaks) caused her to lose her job.
