I know of some smart big firm lawyers who tried to test in to both NY and CA recently and had real issues. As far as I can tell both of those states' reputations are still deserved.
NY is going to the UBE this year so it should be a lot easier.

La is demanding als based on the sheer number of hours spent testing.
As for New York, I was always under the impression that they had a mandatory 50% fail rate--I.e. You not only had to pass the test, but also be in the top half of test takers

I always thought the NY exam got its reputation for being difficult because it tests heavily on bankruptcy. Is that true at all?

Honestly, who would want all that extra time unless you realllllly need it? The test is exhaustive as is. You'd be in there all night.
Agreed. Considering LA bar is graded on a rubric (ie no amount of extra bullshite or fluff will get you any additional points) I can't imagine taking any longer than I actually did.
There was only 2 sections on my test that I even came close to approaching the time limit. shite, the crim pro section was nearly identical to the previous test and I finished in 40 minutes because all I had to do was spit out the 3 pages of material I memorized an hour before the test began.

Not sure, I waived into NY. This whole Uniform Bar Exam is changing everything.

I have taken 4 bar exams and am licensed in 5 states and DC. Surprisingly, Mississippi had the most topics out of the 4 exams that I took.

Code II is the section that actually takes up its time the most.
What's dumb is the afternoon exams get more time for no reason except they are in the afternoon and it's always been that way. The afternoon exams always left me with an hour remaining.
MBE is a mind frick. You feel like you're failing the whole time.
As for law school, might have been mentioned, if you are diagnosed adhd you get 50% more time. If you take meds for it, you still get to keep the time.

Color me shocked.
Doesn't seem this chick has the chest to be a high-powered lawyer.

Maybe one day the states will make it easier to move. Wife got a job here in Healthcare law.
Of course she has to take the TX bar now being under 5 years, but as you know, nothing on the exam has anything to do with what she does.

State bar associations are ruining the profession. I'll just go ahead and get that out of the way.

The question that needs to be answered is if NY State bar examiners grant these accommodations normally. If they don't grant them for anyone ever, then she should know that going in and prepared accordingly.
If they do, and for some reason they didn't grant her the accommodations she was entitled to after completely the necessary process, then they fricked up, not her.

By the way you mentioned LA bar not feeling that hard for you.
My wife was unlucky and took it after they took out conditioning and apparently made the test harder. Pass rate was 53% that year. Brutal

Exactly.
Fed Civ Pro and Code III could take a decent amount of time, but Crim Pro? Negotiable Instruments? Those are probably the 2 lightest sections on the fricking test. Why the frick is torts 2 hours but crim pro 2.5? Makes no fricking sense.

I'd accommodate the hell out of that.
