I've thought enough about you to invite you to my wedding, take ten minutes and run into a drug store and buy a card
That sounds pretty self involved and needy. My friend shows up at the wedoing and offers to share a drink with me, and I'm good to go.

frick no. You have a yr from the date of the wedding to get a gift.

Gifts are properly sent to the home of the bride prior to the wedding. It's trashy to expect guests to bring gifts to the ceremony and trashy to be the guest who does so.

No, not at all. Just order something and have it delivered to the house.
But, if you're asking should you go to a wedding and not buy a gift....no...that shite is trashy as frick.

Then, put "no gifts, please" on the invitations. I'm sure your bride will be pleased.

Yep, especially in the NE. You are expected to bring a card with cash or a check to the wedding.

Odds are they are dropping anywhere from 50 to a 100 on you for dinner and booze so why wouldn't you get them something?

Have never purchased a gift for a wedding.

You NEVER show up to a wedding with a gift. The frick is wrong with you people? Send the gift before (e.g. at the shower) or after the wedding.
right. no one brings a gift to the wedding.

Yes. That being said, if the marriage doesn't last atleast 3 years, the guests should get their gifts back.

Find out what kind of food and drink they will have at the reception and buy a gift card that is equal to the amount of money you'll eat and drink.
That's what I do.
That's what I do.

Not sending thank you notes is way trashier than putting a gift on the table at the reception designated for gifts.

No. Protocol deems you have up to 1 year to give a wedding gift.

Ok, and the guests can also pay for their share of the cost of the wedding reception.

I think the distinction is between bringing a gift, not getting one at all, the latter being obviously a bit trashy or at least absent minded.

I've decided I'm not getting them shite. Thanks for the input
