Bourdain is the Bill Maher of the food world. Condescending, pretentious douche who always thinks he's the smartest person in the room.

He's to food what Jeremy Clarkson is to cars. Smug as frick on TV but still enjoyable to watch.

Bourdain- I don't know if his words or his writers words but he paints an interesting picture when describing his experiences.

He does have a background in Heroin which could explain the strange array of people he knows.
He works/worked in the restaurant industry. I think that explained enough.

To me, food is the ultimate way to experience a new place, especially with chains everywhere. Boutdain does a great job explaining how loach food is entertained with the culture. Plus, he goes to places I am curious about but I will never travel..this season's episode about Georgia (country) was particularly interesting.
Same thing with that Booze Traveler show. More low brow than Parts Unknown but entertaining nonetheless.

I like Bourdain and think he hS the best job on the planet. If he annoys a few folks because he knows and appreciates good food, that's just a bonus. LOL

I think a lot of what people read as pretentious is Bourdain talking tongue in cheek. He may have some moments, but the dude is all over street food, hot dogs, dumplings, and other very common foods. When he went to the pig killing on South LA, he could not say enough about how good it was, especially backbone stew.
I have enjoyed all his series and watched every episode of them. He's a good entertainer and informer.

He writes most of it himself. As I said he is a talented writer and has several good books out there.

Anthony Bourdain has held a spot on my "Five people I would like to get drunk with" list for years. Just seems like a great person to tell stories with.

Just starting watching parts unknown on Netflix. Lol at the Asian guy bringing him to a sizzler on the Korea town LA episode. He was a good sport about it but you could tell he was like what the hell..

I'm a fan of Jeremy Wade. He's the guy that does River Monsters. Some of the places he goes to catch fish are incredible.

I'm a Bourdain fan. I think people think he's pretentious simply because he says what's on his mind bluntly.
But that's his job. He narrates all his episodes.
The dude will go to the dirtiest dingiest places and rave about them. That's not pretentious. He's just opinionated.

Bill Simmons is now on that list too. I think his new show on HBO will be amazing.
