BATON ROUGE - Investigators are currently investigating a possible drowning at a Gardere area sewage treatment plant in Baton Rouge Saturday afternoon.

According to EMS, one person drowned and the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office responded to the Baton Rouge Wastewater Treatment plant around 1:40 p.m. Saturday. First responders say the person was driving a lawnmower before he drowned.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s office says that the worker was working on "some equipment" and fell.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WBRZ News 2 online and on Facebook and Twitter for updates as more information becomes available.

This is terrible. I am assuming that they didn't know how to swim, which is something I will never understand.

Falling into a clarifier is not like falling into a swilmming pool. Depending on the design the could have large rakes scraping the bottom or a skimmer arm on the top.

There are hundreds of scenarios where even a good swimmer could drown. Did he hit his head falling in? Did he get trapped under skimmer or by rake. Was he working with another operator? Was there a ladder for him to climb out in the event that he fell in?

I cant think of a worse way to go. If he drowned, that would suck since they say thats the worse way to go, but its not just drowning.. its drowning in shite & piss.
