Thinking about getting some filets for my dad. Have heard about them but never tried them. Anyone have any experience with them or a similar steak delivery place?

Absolute crap. Terrible quality.

If you're in NOLA, try Cleaver & Co.

Or if you don't mind ordering online, go visit Cutrer's Meat Market & Slaughterhouse. Located in Kentwood.

You'll pay more, but your father will receive a much better product.

Great steaks and even better people that own the business. They regularly flew to the ME to feed troops their steaks. Three beers and a free steak provided by Omaha Steaks!

You can get a much better cut at a local independent butcher for the same price.

Omaha Steaks are a ripoff, in my opinion. They aren't inedible, but aren't worth the premium.

Right now, Omaha has four 5 oz. filet mignons are $49.99, that's $40 a pound. A premium angus filet mignon price is around $21.99 at local markets. So almost half price.

Depends on what you typically spend on steaks. If I remember, Omaha's are relatively cheap, but don't fool yourself, the quality is well below what you'd get at Maxwell's or I guess Whole Foods.

Agree 100%. Received some as a gift once and dogs ate every one. It's terrible, I would eat a shitty double cheeseburger from McDonald's before an Omaha steak.

You remember incorrectly. Its all marketing bullshite.

Here's a link to their filet mignon: LINK

4 steaks for $49.99 sounds great on the surface, especially when compared to the "original price" of $99.99. But they are 5 oz. steaks. That's $40 a pound. That's ridiculous.

in college we let the steak guy come in a do his pitch because we wanted the free 2 litre of coke. stoned out our minds. we had just got back from grocery shopping and the freezer was packed. this guy made the claim if he couldn't fit it all in our freezer we could have the chicken for free. talking like 75 steaks and 75 cuts of chicken. We didn't tell him about the outside freezer so we let him do his thing. roommate and I got the chicken for free like promised and spent like $44 each and ate like kings the first semester

Lots of totally opposite opinions in this thread for the OP to digest.

I've tried Omaha Steaks and was not impressed at all with them. You'd be better off buying local steaks and having them vac sealed for the freezer.

I bought them. Definitely not worth it. I get better prime steaks at Alexander's Market on Highland Road.

They used to be some of the best. Not now. He'll go to a good grocery store and get him some Kobe beef steak.

The good stuff at the meat counter at HEB is better than mail order.
