re: Moving to Houston

When you say the "back" of the woodlands, do you mean down woodlands parkway, or the northern parts? I've never heard the term "back Woodlands" before.

Also. I'm surprised that The Woodlands peeps haven't tried to break their schools away from Conroe ISD.

When I lived in Houston had a lot of friends that lived in Woodlands and also co-workers. Good place to be, safe.

frick the woodlands is like 45 mins from Houston. That is the outskirts. Sucks that it's that crowded. If you're wanting land, you're gonna have to go wayyy out.

Fair enough, there's tons of sub $2000/mo rentals though in the zip code if you look, but as someone who grew up in the neighborhood, im nearing 40 now, I can only recall one serious crime ever and that was when that railroad serial killer killed someone like 20 years ago. That is really rare in a major city to have such a safe,secure area in the heart of town. There is hardly any crime, lots of petty stuff which is mostly kids, but to not see homeless drifters in your neighborhood, to not have crime, and to be in the center of town, you 100% get what you pay for in west u and on a global scale what other major town in the US can you get all that for $1M or less? Also all your neighbors are professionals for the most part, and there's tons of kids for your kids to play with. The only cheap homes are the old run down ones but those are old people 90% of the time and those homes will all be gone in 10-20 years. As far as Houston goes, imo its the best neighborhood bc river oaks is just a different feel when your neighbor is in a mansion an acre away. West U lets you have wealthy neighbors but still close enough where you can interact on a normal basis, my street has block parties every couple months and its a great time. Its nice that West U has its own police department separate from Houston, keeps our area nice.

Also yes property taxes are high but ill tell you what, i used to live up near 1960 when i was a kid in the 80s, I moved to west U when I was 6 or 7 and the house I grew up in has only gone up like 50% meanwhile the house my parents bought in west u went up like 350% so taxes aside, it was a great move on their part. So people who want cheap taxes in suburbia get a rude awakening bc those homes dont really appreciate all that much vs prime inner loop properties in the long run.

Raphael Ramirez, I remember that well. The chimney was always the shadiest party of west u. Definitely not as much now as it was then though.

Or you can pay the same price and get a house 3 times that size, have your own yard (albeit a suburb smaller yard), good schools, tons of local amenities, etc. Just have to deal with a 45 minute to an hour commute.

I have to admit, that's not a terrible price, but I could never move my family into a 1k square foot apartment. If I was single or newly married maybe.

You're zoned to Pershing then Lamar in west u which are very mixed bags at best. I grew up there and myself and all my friends still went to private school. I do agree that west u is one of, if not the, best area to raise a family in Houston, but once you get past west u elementary it's pretty average as far as public schools/networking opportunities go.

The Woodlands - Indians Springs, Alden Bridge or Sterling Ridge (where I am).

If your kids are school aged, there is no substitute. Do NOT live on the "outskirts"......
