They told you things like:

You can do anything you put your mind to

There are no dumb questions

WWI started BECAUSE of ARCHDUKE FERDINAND'S assassination

Christopher Columbus was a good guy

Thanksgiving was a festival that was handed down since colonial days

Abraham Lincoln was all about freeing slaves

Thomas Jefferson was a noble man

Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny

I figured it was all bullshite when I was 12 years old. My grandfather died and it was apparent to me my prayers weren't being answered because there was nobody up there to hear them. I started looking around with a closer eye and it became clear that nobody had a clue wtf they were doing. We're all in this alone, and we have to struggle along toward whatever uncertain fate awaits us.

What? It did.

Nobody ever told me that.

I ain't the smartest person ever but I got where I am because of mentality and effort and most successful people did the same.

Abraham Lincoln was all about freeing slaves

When he issued the emancipation proclamation, he did go all in. It was a belief of his for years but he wanted to keep the country rather than pursuing it. Once the civil war turned into what it did, he had to make it the issue of the war.

Thomas Jefferson was a noble man

Brilliant and respectable. A good leader. But through and through a politician.

Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny

I believe.

I saw on the news today that this man killed himself by driving in front of an oncoming train and I said, out loud, "I hope that was rebeloke"

I'm sad to see that it wasn't

Man has landed on other planets and can take things from the earth to store information on, creating AI..not to mention using a device to talk to anyone across the world at any given time. All this in the past 100 years.

Impossible is becoming an obsolete word.

One of the more egregious lies in history, IMO. This slapdick has his own day and did absolutely nothing, in the grand scheme of things.

Although I don't agree with all your proposed "lies", I started to figure out that what we are taught to believe growing up is largely bullshite around college.

I remember the day I was telling a friend, " isn't it weird to know that your parents aren't really as smart as you always thought them to be?".

Quite a paradigm shift. And it's just continued as I've gotten older.Rarely are things what you think they are.
