I used to have one with a 1.6 swap converted to rwd.
Fun little car.

I drove one years ago as a rental when my truck was in the body shop. It had a 3 cylinder engine and I've owned lawnmowers with more horsepower. If I ran over a piece of gum I had to downshift. If I was driving top speed at 55 mph and turned on the A/C is was as if someone kicked that car in the nuts. The speed immediately dropped to 40 mph. I hit a moth while driving on the interstate and did $400 worth of damage.
I couldn't begin to fathom how someone could go to the Geo dealership, test drive that POS and say, "This is the car for me, I have to buy it".

My buddy in high school wrecked his car and had to drive a geo metro for several months. 3 cylinders ~48 horsepower. We topped it out around 80 mph if I remember correctly. We also made a cardboard body kit for it and went around town trolling fast cars for a race
I loved driving that car though because it had the easiest clutch I've ever driven. I've driven automatic everything my whole life so I'm not great with a manual transmission, but I could work the one in that Geo like a charm.
Oh and we timed it's 0-60 at about 24 seconds

I drove a 2000 Chevy metro, 3 cylinder, for years. Got around 44 mpg. It finally started falling apart at 205,000 miles. Great little car. I didn't have air, so every gear worked fine

I have driven one, but bought a Civic hatchback instead back in the early 90's. Not a bad car for the money, but I never understood why anyone would get the 3 cylinder option instead of the 4 cyl.

My ex had the Suzuki version. Fun car and a lot of pep.

I knew a kid in Hugh high school that had a Yugo. It's was such an old pos, young kids on school buses would laugh at him at red lights. But it was fun to drive. Kinda like a go cart.

If you wanted to take one of those fine driving machines straight off the show room floor, how much did they cost?

I was behind one that grenaded it's engine all over my car and the freeway in Houston

I'm no car snob but I remember I got a ride in a Geo Metro once when I was probably 13. I had never heard of a Geo Metro but I remember thinking it was BY FAR the shittiest car I had ever been in. I'm pretty sure it actually topped out around 75 mph and at anything over 60 it shook in an unsettling manner.

Never drove a Metro, but I dated a girl who had a Geo Prism. Truthfully, it wasn't a bad little car. It was slow as molasses and you felt intimidated driving on the interstate with truck-nut baws weaving by, but overall it wasn't a bad car for a 20 year old girl. It didn't matter if you barely touched the gas or if you mashed it down with everything you had, it was only going to accelerate at one speed. Handled surprisingly well, but with that short and wide of a wheel base, I guess that's to be expected.

My ex had one. Took forever to get up to 60, don't think we every made it to 70. frick that car. I'd rather drive a lawn mower or golf cart.

Bought a 1990 new (1.5L with a 4 speed manual). Wonderful car.
Needed more space than it had, sold it two years later with 45,000 miles on it for what I paid new for it.
I see the Chevy Spark (corporate successor to the Metro) aplenty on the roads in the Second & Third World. I'm sure they are good basic transportation.
I would not hit it.

Once.... Drove since the owner was drunk.
Once was enough.
Once was enough.

Before the days of Gator Tail and Pro Drive surface drives the motors were great to use in 15-17' mudboat. Relatively light and decent power.
