Chris Peterson has never:
-coached in the SEC
-recruited in the south
-dealt with the distraction and microscope that come with a team the magnitude of LSU
This is a huge step-up in competition. Can he handle these challenges?
See there is no sure thing?

Wrong rule book. I take it you have no idea what the NCAA compliance manual is like. I know that all schools have people to help with compliance but it would be nice if our HC had some working knowledge of it going in.

Cash...I've lost track of all the guarantees made on the board. Who are you saying is the next LSU head coach??
I'm honest, I don't know.
I just know anyone who things JDR wouldn't be a slam dunk choice needs to where a helmet in public and shouldn't be allowed near scissors.

Never said there was a sure thing. I am just looking for the best fit for LSU. Del Rio has never done any of the other things you mentioned either. Given that, I think someone who has been successful in the college game is a better bet. Seriously, other than Pete Carroll, which career NFL coaches have put together successful college teams. Going the college coach route is safer.

So lets see according to you there are two problems with JDR.
1) HE hasn't organized a recruiting effort
and
2) He doesn't understand the compliance manual(a significant portion of which is about recruiting)
BAM we can combine these into one. He gets to pass on organizing recruiting and therefore he doesn't need to know those parts of the manual.

Name me one successful NFL coach that failed in college.
Most of the guys you are thinking of were bad NFL coaches who surprise were bad college coaches.

momma - question for you:
was your son recruited using some sort of Jedi mind trick, or did the winning coach just impress your son more than others.

You will really like JDR. According to Mike Scarbourgh he is a real looker. So he has that going for him, which is nice.

Wrong "momma".... I only have daughters, sorry. but:
anyway!

No doubt, an impressive 2 years as a head coach...
Not sure how much recruiting credit he deserves since he's only been HC for two years, don't follow Boise State that close...are they winning with all the freshman and sophomore talent?
Also conference strength questions...the WAC isn't the SEC.
But I think he would certainly be worth looking at, but ask yourself one question.
If Chris Peterson wanted LSU as much as I think JDR wants LSU, don't you think you would be hearing his name a lot more?

that has nothing to do with him being mentioned in internet rumors. fans are going crazy posting BS rumors about huge name coaches because that is what everyone wants

I am not sorry that I HAVE the daughters...they really are very awesome! (down, nasty dogs!!)
I was "sorry" I wasn't the "mom" to answer the question. (and maybe just a little sorry that I don't also have a son playing for the Tigahs to go along with the girls! but that would have been a Freudian sorry..)

I just have my doubts that he comes here. He has his best team in his short pro career, and he's going to leave? I just don't buy it. If he was 100% wanting to come to LSU, a snafu in communications in 2004 wouldn't have stopped that.
(emphasis added)
Never underestimate the power of the "snafu"...
Wars have been lost because of snafu's, why is it impossible to think I guy missed out on a job because of one.
Seriously, I think it had something to do with Skip not speaking with the Jacksonville owner before hand...other versions of the story put it on JDR's agent. Who knows, but certainly possible!

Name one successful NFL coach who's left to go to college. Del Rio leaving the NFL for college at this point in his career makes no sense to me.

No. I really don't. I really don't think the next coach will be JDR, Saban or Spurrier. As far as the talent recruited to Boise goes, he was their OC for 4 years before becoming a head coach, so I assuming that he had some hand in recruiting that talent. As he has been a college coach since 1987 he has had 20 years to learn how to recruit.
So, he hasn't coached in the SEC. Neither had SOS when UF hired him. But they both had learned the college game. I think we need to be looking for a successful college coach first, and second, one with the potential to stay a while. Peterson is both.
