Arnsparger had a damned good resume and one that went much further back than Del Rio's, yet our recruiting suffered while he was here.

Yes, because he was a tired Old man not interested in Recruiting...

Pretty much a Polar opposite of what Del Rio is...so what's your point?

So what is your complaint? He'll suck as a college coach or he'll never come here?

I just have my doubts that he comes here. He has his best team in his short pro career, and he's going to leave? I just don't buy it. If he was 100% wanting to come to LSU, a snafu in communications in 2004 wouldn't have stopped that.

My point is that while he knows how to run an NFL team he has never worked in a college environment. He has never organized a recruiting effort. Never had to master the NCAA rule book. He would be learning some of the most important parts of the job on the job. I just do not think that is a good idea at a job of this magnitude.

"teh roxxors"?

Sure. I have no idea what I am agreeing to, but sure.

I realize showing interest is different than seeking -- is he asking his agent to contact LSU or is he being contacted. That is a big question for me.

DrEdgeLSU-
No problem...
again, I know nothing solid, but the impression I've gotten is that the LSU job is something that JDR would actively pursue.

Also, while everyone's name has been mentioned at some point or another during this "still not official" LSU coaching search...
Three names seem to keep bubbling to the top:
Saban, Spurrier, and JDR.

I think he's the dark horse in the bunch but by far my preference!

What is Jack Del Rio's defensive style, or better yet, what do you suppose his defensive style would be like here at LSU?

I'll guarantee you one thing...
There are NO GUARANTEE's

Everyone comes with some baggage, question marks, risk, etc.

Who's your "perfect" fit for a job of this magnitude?

Saban - Had his chance, he walked away...that's on him (baggage to obvious to mention)

Spurrier - Great idea, 10 year ago..not now!

?????????????? You tell me, Who?

It's easy to name who you don't want and why. But at the end of the day, you need to name a coach.

Who's my choice? Chris Petersen. He has been a very successful OC and head coach in Boise, which I have never been to but I am sure is difficult to recruit to. Therefore, to have the type of players he has he must have done a good job. He was a candidate for the Broyles award twice in 4 years. He knows how to win big games, as is evidenced by last year's Fiesta Bowl. He is a coach that would likely stay at LSU if we treat him right. He graduated from UC Davis so he is not likely to go back there.

He's my pick. I am sure there are other good ones. I just prefer somebody who knows the college game.

Well Les never did this either so what's the problem?

Seriously, I'll volunteer to spend 15 minutes explaining the over time clock stoppage rules. Problem solved.

Am I wrong or do most staffs have a recruiting coordinator?

Someone sets up his appointments, JDR walks in wearing a purple suit, points at the recruit says "boo yah", the recruit asks "where do I sign."

Cash: "The clock stops when you get a first down."
JDR: "What?"
Cash: "When you get a first down the clock stops."
JDR: "I.... I don't understand."
Cash: "Its not that hard."
JDR: "WHRAGH? RIO SMASH CLOCK BAD"
Cash: "Dude WTF?"
JDR: "SSSSSSSSMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAASSSSSSHHHHH!!!!!"
