It literally happened a couple days before we were to make the run.

I really meant the grass flat on the surf side.

Everybody knows there's no fish in smuggler's.

Probably gonna make a camping trip out there soon and fish the area you're talking about. We hit the northwest flats last time cause it was rougher and that was the protected side. Usually it's money for flounder gigging but we couldn't get on them, or anything else.

Me too man. I'm really stoked. I got a sky blue hull, beige/light tan deck and console, and a Yamaha 90.

My friend and I talked about that same thing the other night. I never really fished the area until he got me into it, but I really like it out there. I'd really have to pick a good day to get the skiff out there. We ran up on a guy stranded in Smuggler's on morning in a 16'ish bateau though

I'm not sure exactly. It ought to be done sometime in the next two weeks or so.

Miles Larose and the guys at Shallow South use flats skiffs quite well in the LA Marsh.

I've fished on Miles fury a bunch and I can't wait for the day I can afford one. Those things are sweet.

You're going to really like that boat, especially with the 90. ECC builds a hell of a boat and stands behind their work 100%. Never been on Miles' fury but I've been on one with a 50hp yamaha 2 stroke tiller and no liner. That's my kind of shite, I like boats with sponges in the bilge in stead of pumps. Every ounce counts.

I'm looking to down down size. I'm holding out for an original Glades skiff to pop up for sale.

Yep. Look at Beavertail Skiffs as well. They are not as pricey, but are arguably just as good, if not better, boats.

I'm with ya, Barf. Kayaks, like microskiffs, are best when simple and cheap.
Kayaks are shallow, stealthy, ultra portable, inexpensive, and easy to maintain. The more stuff added, the more you lose these benefits. Those that want a large, heavy kayak with a bunch of gear and electronics may be better served with a gheenoe, riverhawk, towee, ankona, etc.
The thing I think that most affects their prevalence here is availability. Most people are not going to drive the distances required to purchase a lot of these boats and then deal with the paperwork involved with buying a boat out of state. Unless you're a dedicated fly fisherman or sight caster, there are boats easily available locally that'll catch fish just as well.
But if this is what you want to do, there are better options than a Hobie.

Barf, why did you post that Bossman?

I have a new want. Would be a perfect boat for me as well.

I know someone who had one of these bad boys. Not really a technical poling skiff, but you can pole it. You can also haul arse and cross some shite in it. I actually wish I was ready to buy when he sold it. He did everything in it if I recall, from bass fishing to saltwater. Only reason it was sold was he was getting a fancy glitter boat.

Damn I wish I lived closer to the coast.

No reason for me to ever get one living in NWLA but I love looking at these types of boats on microskiffs.com
