They are good boats. Journey South Outfitters in Venice has an 18 BVT if you ever want to try one out before purchasing.

Fished for one year out of a L&B Boca. It's more of a hybrid leaning toward bay boat. Fast bay boat. I'm not a big fan of em personally, there are others nearly as fast and handle better in a chop. They draft at least 10 inches.

Yeah Journey South has a nice one. I've always really liked the fish ability of skiffs, but on a big lake chop, you'll get your arse beat and get soaked. Need a more versatile bay boat for here.

Got to take my baby out this weekend. Ran the intercoastal in the wind with no problem, and got pretty deep in the Marsh in some skinny water.

If the woman poling comes standard on all beavertails im trading mine in.

My only problem with it is I don't know where to fish reds with it. The only place I ever fish reds is cocodrie by our camp almost in lake pelto. It's hard to find clean water out that way in the winter. I guess I need to learn lake Boudreaux, pac for the reds.

Do y'all find fishing broken Marsh, main canals or bay shorelines to produce more?

I find that a lot of times it's tough to find really good water in that area, I run up on it sometimes, but I have yet to really get in some clear flats like the ones I've seen in Hopedale.

If you have a place in Cocodrie you are in some of the best sight casting water in the state. The marsh holds the same caliper redfish as hopedale but without all the out of state guides. A lot of guides moved their operation out of Hopedale and over to Cocodire, and they didn't do it to chase slot reds, they did it for the bulls.

To sight fish PAC in that boat you're going to want to hang out on the edges of the marsh. You may be able to get deeper into the marsh when the water is up. That hull is far better suited to chase bigger fish.

Boudreax is good, quitman is good, there is some stellar fishing just a few miles to the east. Everything between china island and coco marina, to the south, holds fish and crystal clear water. Those areas were shallow broken marsh drains into more open lakes should suit you just fine in that boat. You have the ability to makes that run, so make it.

LIke I said a few days ago, I've been fishing Dulac area for 10 years and have seen very few skiffs. Tons of good marsh to the south that I never go to.

Blasphemy! It's on par with the Biloxi marsh. If you marked those clear flats on your gps go back and look at area immediately surrounding the clear water. You will find the pattern. The geographical areas that hold clean water are very similar. If you can nail down that pattern, you can use that information to set up on flats that have a better chance of holding clean water. Dark areas that butt up to broken marsh or shade the edge of lakes on google earth can help you find aquatic grass. Grass can = clear water. Same for oysters. They show up on google earth as almost this pixelated looking bottom feature.

It's all there. If you have the skills to chase trout, getting a hold of a good redfish pattern should be easy for you. It's a little different if you're trying to sight cast but you posses the tools to figure it out.

I was talking more so the area his camp is in, but yeah I pretty much agree with you on trying to pattern some clear water flats and that's definitely something I should probably work on a little bit. I just need a damn shallow draft boat I can quietly get around. Trying to stalk the banks and flats in a Gator Tail is tough Good info, thanks.

I had maverick in 2003 and Ioved it.
Sold
It and it held its value and bought a bass boat.

Use to buy used small Cajun specials with 30hp Johnson and put poling platform on them. They were great except in aluminum boat hull slapping there which don't have on a fiberglass.

Clear brackish water can be found on the north side of Lake Boudreaux easily. Lots of big mullet fed reds there. Big orange pumpkins floating in black water. You just have to know how to fish grass. Great place to pole grass flats.

PAC is awesome too. Leave the PAC marina and head left (northeast). About a mile and a half up, the marsh gets deep enough. There's a canal to your right. Once in that canal, all the marsh to the left holds big reds. Lots of other places as well, but that one always was good.

Cocodrie is great to fish, but anything on the montegut side does get murky with a 5 mph wind. I still fished there mostly since that's where the camp was, but it was just trolling motor. In those other places, I can pole into a small pond, set my power pole and cast from the platform for 5 minutes seeing reds all over the ponds. Had to be a accurate cast with all the grass though.

This is what im talking about, im strait south, in Moss Bay. on a windless week, i have whooped arse on some bull reds, very few smaller ones. From the maps, its looking like east to dulac is where the clean water stays. i just gotta make the run.

its too shallow for my boat with everything silting up as well, erosion is a bitch down there.

IM starting to get pumped up on this sight fishing thing. May go sunday to PAC
