You had to take out loans to cover 2600/year in tuition? And you had scholarships? Why didn't you just get a part time job?

Worked 2 part time jobs, which was over 40 hours a week. No guarantee that I would make enough to cover tuition along with other things going on in my life, so took out loans. Interest rates were very low.

I had a scholarship, didn't say for how much.

Point is--I made it work. And, those same resources are available for students today. If you want, there's a way to make it happen.

I graduated at 4.25 with a 28 ACT and if it wasn't for TOPS I wouldn't have been able to go to college. I got zero scholarships the whole time i was in school and applied for way more than I can recall.

I used to get so mad that I couldn't get a grant because my parents made too much money. I was paying for the shite and I didn't make hardly anything. Was in school with people who were getting paid to go to LSU, with parents who were paying for school. I still get pissed thinking about it. College was a miserable time for me.

wtf does a DR do?

scientists make the drugs

Drs just write scrips. AND they only specialize in like 1 part of the body. It's a racket. They are no better than auto mechanics diagnosing problems with a car.

be honest with yourself.

Tops should be aimed at keeping the state's best in the state.

This whole thing is just a front to convince the middle class to support much higher taxes which will be his next move. Maybe now the state will realize we need to change the constitution once and for all to remove the pork protection.

Just wait until oil is still 30 a barrel 3 years from now and nobody can support the high taxes THEN the fed stops matching medicaid dollars.

JBE has no idea how to get out of this. Taxing people losing jobs is a failed strategy.

You just won the dumbest post of the year award. I would love to see you go through med school and a residency. Your smart arse would be begging for mercy.

Yep. I have some. I would have gone to trade school if not for tops. Not burying myself under that kind of debt for an undergrad degree, even in engineering.

Thousands of students like you? There aren't thousands of students in LA colleges with 4.2 GPAs and 34 ACTs. You're either lying, delusional, or both.

I'll safely assume it is both.

I'm neither lying, nor delusional.

The enrollment of the LSU Honors college alone was around 2,000 in 2007.

The absurdity of ridding TOPS without first tightening the requirements first is something I cannot comprehend. I know I have a vested interest in it continuing, but come on.

Scare tactic

Getting legislature ln line to vote in lots of new taxes.

Same tactic as LSU bankruptcy last year.

Except when a mechanic gets it wrong, he charges you more. When a Dr gets it wrong, people die and sue. By all means though, continue with that terrible analogy and neglect the fact that most of your "scientists," are also MD's...

Same card LSU has played for the past 8ish years.

Raise the standards and cut the waste, and change the damn constitution so the state can cut shite other than education.

The three years stated running 2 years ago. I'm pretty sure LA can only get in on the last year. Sh#% hits the fan sooner.
