The surplus was artificial. It was there because the fed pumped Louisiana with money after Katrina. Jindal had nothing to do with the oil crash.

Huge loss of jobs = loss of tax revenue amongst many fronts.

What Jindal did wrong was not promote an amendment to the state constitution so he could really cut some programs hard. Louisiana still has more government workers per capita than all but 5 states. It was #1 when he took over. Still way too high but he never could touch the golden goose programs.

I was valedictorian with a 4.0 and 30 ACT. The only scholarship I received was a $1000 scholarship from LSU my freshman year. I applied for at least 20 scholarships. Needless to say, TOPS saved my broke arse in college.

My nephew went to Jesuit NOLA, had a GPA higher than 4.0 (because of honors courses) and the only place he got an offer for full ride was out of state at UF in Gainesville.

You would have been fine if TOPS didn't exist though. More scholarships would be available if TOPS didn't subsidize in state kids.

You think engineering is some kind of elite field that only the best and brightest can survive?

I'm sure this is the same stupid bullshite we hear every year for the past 7 or 8 years. The schools running out of money, the states running out of money, etc.

Somehow, the standards are never raised and nothing ever happens. It's amazing.

Iirc the kid got scholarships to places like Stanford

Would there be though? You think they just ridded of the entire TOPS program at the drop of a dime in order to implement a system that provides more scholarship opportunity? Im skeptical.

Teach me how Jindal caused oil to become 27 a barrel.

I'm sure Edwards will save us because west point and he didn't have a whore. Vitter would not have been better off. Nobody would be. The state is tied to the hip with oil. 65 a barrel us req for the budget. It was 85 a barrel at the time the budget was created.

Exaggeration? No possible way these so called brilliant minds couldn't get student loans and actually PAY for the schooling themselves?

I also enjoy how you prop up your history degree.

This is nothing more than JBE holding kids/education ransom. Cuts could be made any number of other places.
