Report: Browns lied about Manziel concussion to cover up his drinking

In a report on the league’s own network, the Browns have been accused of lying about Johnny Manziel having a concussion in an effort to cover up that the real problem with Manziel was showing up to work drunk.
“Johnny Manziel, going into what would have been a start late in the season, showed up drunk at practice on a Wednesday. The Browns lied and said he was in the concussion protocol. Let me repeat that: The Browns lied, to try to protect, and I would argue enable, this irresponsible and very troubled young man,” Mike Silver said on the air on NFL Network.

I don't believe it. A well-run organization like the Browns would never do something so stupid.

The Browns are the worst organization in all of professional sports.

Much harder to trade an alcholic.

a bit over the top. they lied to try to cover their asses and save a media shitshow that would have ensued.

Not really. Sure, their primary directive was to protect themselves by protecting Manziel's value, but their actions (if true) did enable Manziel.

Who's to saying he didn't have a concussion? He just happened to be drunk as well.

How can someone enjoy drinking that much?

And to think Jerrah had to be overruled by people in the organization to avoid trading the farm to get old Johnny Football.

For some people it really consumes them
I used to drink too much. Now I still drink fairly often but not a lot when I do drink.
But I know some people who are functioning alcoholics. I'd say that the amount of time that their BAC is 0 is probably in the minority. It's sad really.

Yep. I officially hate Stephen Jones now.

Why would they protect him this way? Would get them out of his contract easier if he was doing that.

If NFL Network’s report is correct, the NFL should come down hard on the Browns. The league has spent the last few years repeating, over and over again, that concussions are to be taken seriously. If the Browns are using bogus concussion diagnoses to avoid having to discuss players’ off-field problems, that would be an appalling misuse of the league’s injury reports.
So while the Browns are done with Manziel, they may not be done paying the price for hitching their wagon to him. Cleveland could be facing league discipline for lying about a concussion.
Good Lord, that would be like kicking a baby in the teeth. Poor Browns.

Are they going to lose a first round pick?

100% guarantee that Jerry would have actually had the rules and support team to help guide him through his issues that the Browns seemingly did not have.
Say what you will about Jerry's GM abilities, he is one of the best in the biz when it comes to trying to help players deal with their personal demons.
Not saying that Johnny would be a success in Dallas, just that he would have had a hell of a lot better of a chance and at the very least would have had a much faster and better response to his issues.
