Building right now and I am going with gutters. I think most houses in my new hood have them.

Yall must all live in crap hoods. All the houses in my area have gutters. It is nice to keep the water from tearing up the lanscape and pooling by the foundation.

good elevation on the roof and an overlap to keep water from going in the walls, why would you need gutters?
We dont have basements, and diverting your rain water 8 feet isnt going to make a substantial difference in this city.

gutters stop it from raining in your back yard? Cool. Tiger stadium must have gutters on it since it never rains there

They make screens for the top of gutters.

In my neighborhood there are a LOT of trees, including many pine trees. Even with screens it would be a timely chore to keep them clean.

You don't need them here because of the Freezeline/foundation. Rain on the foundation isn't an issue.
Waste of money.
Waste of money.

good question. I paid extra to have gutters put on my house. I hate that trench that rain water makes around the houses that don't have gutters.

i hated the backsplash into and next to my carport and back door. gutters are a sound investment.

I have gutters on the back side of my house that keep the rainwater runoff from my roof off my exposed wooden decking. If not for the deck I wouldn't have the gutters. It's a PITA to get up there and clear out the leaves and pine straw.

If you only wish to keep the water from eroding a line around your house and don't need to move the water away to keep it out of basements, you can always use Rainhandlers to disperse the water.
They kind of look like Venetian blinds that mount horizontally under the drip edge of the roof. The louvers take the water and disperse it, but leaves and such just wash or blow away. If they do get clogged, you just hit them from the ground with a hose to blast the debris clear.

screens for gutters work great for all those problems with leaves. I'm a big fan of gutters that are installed properly and have the leaf guards.
Finally someone with a brain.
Gutter guards, leaf guards, they go by different names.

I thought the purpose of having gutters was so that they can fill up with leaves and overflow like the assholes that they are?

Right. Other areas of the country do not have trees with leaves. That's why houses in other areas have gutters.

I am up north and gutters don't get full of snow and fall off as one poster noted. Gutters are used to route rain water where you want it to go. Either into a storm drain on away from foundation/basement. Gutters are must in most places in this country. Although, growing up in SE LA our houses only had gutters over entry ways so you didn't get soaked.
As far as leaves go. My house has has 6 tree's on the "tree lawn", corner lot, and my neighbor has a giant oak. Leaves fall quickly up here and gutter cleaning is a 30 minute job.
Let all the leaves fall, clean gutters, rake all leaves. See ya next fall.
