I passed by it recently and saw they were starting to tear it down. I noticed what looked like a smoke stack to the rear of it. Googled the place and saw it was once a TB hospital.
Was that stack from an incinerator there?
If you want some interesting reading, there is plenty of it. Place has a pretty dark past.
I couldn't find anything on why they are tearing it down,or who may have bought it.

It is a great piece of property. My fathers company did work in there several times in the 50-60-70's and when I was a kid would ride with them through it. Wasn't a really bad place then as far as facility wise. The buildings were full of asbestos so I guess that is part of the reason it is being torn down.

Let's build the new high school over a notorious TB hospital!

Definitely won't be haunted!

I read there were unmarked graves from when the old Greenwell Springs resort hotel was used as a civil war hospital. Added to all the dark stuff from its days as a TB and a mental hospital, seems a strange place to build a school. I ran across a message board where former patients were talking about the terrible things they encountered as recent as 2004. Not sure how much or if any of it was true, but these former patients were naming staff names and such. Crazy stuff.

I don't want to sound too disrespectful, but these folks were patients in a mental hospital, right?....

I remember passing by and as you got close there was a sign saying "Don't pick up Hitchhikers' .

There is a book at the Bluebonnet library about the history of Greenwell Springs and they go into detail about the springs themselves that were thought to have 'healing qualities', to the resort, to the TB hospital. Really interesting.

Wow. My grandfather worked his entire professional life in that hospital, from the early 1950s to the late 80's or early 90s. My company had a construction project there in like 2001 and I was telling him about it, and he would light up like a Christmas tree when I'd talk about it. He died in 2002.

I'd love to ride by and look around. Anyone know how stringent they are on that shite?

A close family member did a brief stint there years ago. He said it was a relatively uneventful experience and that the place was actually ok and the staff were stern but friendly and caring overall and that the facilities were old but fairly well kept.

He didn't want to spend a second longer than he had to there, but it wasn't a horrible experience like he feared it would be.

I visited him there once and i was actually kind of amazed by how normal everything seemed.

This was in 03', so I guess things could have been really bad prior to that time. Also I wasn't aware of the place's history. Interesting.

Seriously though, it's a public school.

If you don't want ghosts go to a private school like a normal person

If you look on google earth there is some property a little south of there with a big pond with an island that has a house on it. It's too far back from the road to see I think. Any idea what's up with that? Seems unusual. It looks like a good size house.

The vacant building had some security cameras and some local kids got caught exploring the building about a year or so ago
