yes

it's surprising crime hasn't shot up more, really. besides the restaurant robbers it seems like they aren't seizing the opportunities they have.

aggressive incentive for people to become NOPD officers. Free housing, tax incitives, something.

I've said that for years. We give $40k and $50k grants to first time home buyers, let's give NOPD like $60k- $80k grant for a house if they stay on the force at least 5-10 years if not they have to pay back the grant when they sell the house. Also build up houses in lower income areas and make cop blocks, like 4-5 houses on a block all with cops, that would help out response times by a great deal.

So much could be done, and done with federal funds even, I can't believe this isn't done yet.

i dont like his attitude at all but i think the facts he posts about the NOPD lack of manpower, backlogged calls, and response time are accurate.

I can't speak for person vs person crime but the last two wrecks we've had with trucks in new orleans it has taken 3 and 4 hours for NOPD to arrive on scene. Both times other officers passed an obvious wreck and did not stop

It took NOPD 9 hours to show up when my house was robbed in 2013 and when they finally arrived they spent the entire time trying to convince me that it was an inside job and that my roommate had stolen my belongings.

When is the next Mayoral election? Sounds like the city is primed for a one-issue "crime" candidate to come in and implement some of the ideas you guys are throwing around.

I saw that article yesterday, and while I think that high wait average has a lot to do with the 3 hour wait times after fender benders, it's still reflective of the general DGAF attitude of NO city officials.

I haven't ever had a slow response time with JPSO. Even when I was trying to file a report for a stolen item, they got here within 5 minutes.

Around Metairie, they patrol smaller areas, so they get there faster. The same 5 or 6 patrol from Causeway to 17th St Canal from the interstate to the lake

With NOPD, it's not even worth calling the cops most of the time. They won't show up, and if they do, they either won't file the report correctly, or won't file it at all. They really DGAF about what goes on

NOPD has always been ridiculous. 15 years ago, someone slashed my tires and smashed my front and rear windshields. Called NOPD, they said it would take several hours, or I could fill out a report over the phone. I did it over the phone.

In Jefferson, I have called three times. Once for a home burglary and twice for car burglaries. All three times, I stressed it was not an emergency, no rush, etc. All three times, deputies arrived within two minutes. Crime scene came out on all three and dusted for prints.

NOPD is dysfunction junction.

Well when you are laying on the street paralyzed almost beaten to death and the NOPD take 40 minutes to get to you, there seems to be a problem there

Paramedics were there within 5 minutes and the cops showed up later at the hospital. Yeah, NOPD was woefully late, but let's not act like the guy was left languishing in a gutter before they attended to him.

It took the NOPD over 6 hours to respond to my calls when my wheels and rims were stolen. When they finally showed up, two cars came. I dont think I would have even called them If I didn't need a report for insurance reasons

People can shite on Kenner all they want, but when you need a cop you never wait more than five minutes.

I just moved to Kenner and it feels good to be able to see a cop car ever on other street or so. You don't have to really worry while your in Kenner.

I live in Metairie unfortunately for the time being. 8 months ago I was at the Rum House on Magazine when my wife called me and said there was a man wondering around our back yard looking in the windows. Our back yard is gated and so is our neighbors. You cant get in there on accident.

I had her lock herself in the bedroom with my pistol and call the police. I could hear the dog going nuts so I hailed a cab and paid him $100 bucks to get there as fast as possible.

I BEAT THE COPS TO MY HOUSE IN A CAB ALL THE WAY FROM MAGAZINE. I dont trust law enforcement around here at all anymore.

Dog must have scared the guy off but it was a real eye opener to find foot prints in my garden in the back yard from this guy.

Avg JPSO response time for all calls is less than 5 minutes. You're either lying or were just horribly unlucky. Either way your criticism of the JPSO response time is unfounded.

I was just wondering about that. If you blast a bad guy, will they come faster then?

Curious if the slow response to armed robberies is because the criminal has already left? I just can't conceive of a police agency that doesn't consider an armed robbery as a major event that qualifies for a lights and siren response.

Why isn't there communication between the paramedics and NOPD? My understanding of the story is that by the time cops arrived hours later they couldn't find the victim (no $hit - he's in the hospital) and the witnesses had left, so they marked the call as unfounded.

How the hell was NOPD not aware and/or not been notified by EMS that the victim had been transported to the hospital in critical condition?

Yeah maybe. He didn't talk about how he was at rum house with his side-piece OT 10 while the wife was at home in his mansion just off Northline in Old Metairie, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he just had bad luck.

And in the meantime I found a source for less than 5 minutes response time. It's in the fiscal report from 2014. Response time of less than 5 minutes on average for all calls.
