Well, none of you will be invited to my super-awesome barleywine tasting.

Basic barleywines don't bring all the boys to yard.

I love a good barleywine, I just don't think fresh Grand Reserve is that amazing. Still have plenty of bottles that need to age.

My take whenever I drink a barleywine is, "I enjoyed that, but I don't think I'll have another."

I don't think I've ever had one, but if I am invited I'd come.

While not usually a fan of seasonal offerings, I was given a sixer of Abita Pecan Harvest Ale this weekend by an army buddy, who bought it at the base PX for $5. Very surprised and enjoyed it thoroughly. Anyone know where it's sold to the public?

my bold prediction: Ghost will not be the #1 beer next year
I will take that bet... I believe it will be.

But it also makes a shitty list of top beers from Louisiana. Ours is way better.

Not as good as Breakfast Brown
And yes, I know you love Brown with Cinnamon Toast Crunch, that's the OG BB

I appreciate GR's history and could argue its among the flagship beers for LA. It's a solid American Barleywine. That said, I think most craft beer drinkers including myself prefer an English style Barleywine.
I just don't get the richness out of it that you get with Mother of All Storms, A Deal With the Devil, Kuhnhenn and others. That being said, if there's a few styles I'm take it or leave it with its Barleywines.

That's a pretty good list. Y'all did good.

I agree with this... GR is a very good barleywine, but IMO its no better than Big Foot which is on shelf 6 months out of the year.

I'm sure you realize that all of the beers you listed are barrel aged. As a matter of fact all of the top 20 English Barleywines on BA are barrel aged.
Maybe 'most craft beer drinkers' just prefer barrel aged barleywines to non-barrel aged variety. Who would have guessed...

I don't think there's any single style where I would take the English version over the American.
