that is one sweet gig
quote:
ESPN pays Jon Gruden $6.5 million a year, according to Jim Miller, a reporter and author who has made a career for himself by knowing lots of stuff about ESPN and Saturday Night Live.

after taxes and paying his agent it's only like $3.25 million
Posted on 9/29/15 at 2:48 pm to BilJ
Hmmmm I don't believe that

and is only working half the year

I don't think anyone actually wonders why.
Posted on 9/29/15 at 2:53 pm to BilJ
Because he doesn't know when a team should go for 2.

Plus Hooters endorsements

I figured he was in that ball park
He just got an extension after being in the discussion for some college/pro teams head coaching gigs, I assumed it was in the same ball park for him to stay instead of pursuing those

he's basically going to be like Madden.
When a lot of people think of Madden, they think video games and football commentating, they forget he was a HOF coach.
Gruden will have a long career in broadcasting and people will forget he was a pretty good coach who won a super bowl

Gruden is also really good at what he does now and doesn't have to be in a damn football facility 25 hours in a day.

If his salary is really that big he will soon be on the chopping block due to the Disney demands of cost cutting at ESPN.
I think people would much rather the game announcers actually be present for the games they are calling than have 1,000 dumb segments where Gruden talks about how great everyone that comes to his "camp" is.

No stress of coaching and he's making a ton.
Has a whole staff to help as well.
I always wondered why people thought he'd go back into coaching

Gruden does nothing for me as a color guy and tirico is the most boring announcer on espns roster.
Sunday night football with Michaels and collinsworth is exponentially better.

What a sweet gig. Gets to immerse himself in the game he loves for a handsome salary without the anxiety and pressure heaped on NFL head coaches.

Because he's an average coach. Teams don't want him, fans of teams want him.

He is not that good of a coach? His act wore thin in Tampa and nobody else wants him.

So instead of ponying up for Simmons, they pay him 6 million a year?

Absurd. No wonder ESPN is slashing all of its employees
