Slain reporter's parents decide that guns are to blame for the crime

Both of these subjects were topics on the OT lately...
I don't know who 'these people' are in the quote above.

It’s been less than a week since murder set their lives onto a new course, into roles they never wanted to take on and into a battle they never planned to fight. But only five days in, Andy and Barbara Parker — the parents of slain television journalist — speak about gun control with a passion as if they’d spent their lifetimes fighting for it.
“You can’t change the world in a day,” Barbara Parker told CNN. “But we cannot be intimidated, we cannot be pushed aside.” On Wednesday, Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward — two journalists for WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia — were killed on live television by a disgruntled former employee.
In the days since, Andy Parker has emerged as perhaps the world’s most visible advocate for gun control, making numerous appearances on numerous networks and even holding a news conference. On Sunday, both of the Parkers spoke to CNN’s Poppy Harlow, telling her that ending gun violence has become each of their lives’ missions — and the grieving parents pledged to be as unrelenting and as feisty as their daughter in achieving it.
“Alison would be really mad at me if I didn’t take this on,” said Andy Parker. “And I promise you, these people are messing with the wrong family. We are going to effect a change.”

Barbara Parker said she is not discouraged by the fact that those previous mass shootings failed to be the tipping point when it came to gun control, nor is she fazed by the often fervent — and well-financed — defenders of the Second Amendment.
“There are people out there whose minds we will never change,” she said. “If you are a parent, if you are a mother, if you have children — how can you look your child in the eye and say we are willing to allow you to be collateral damage in order to keep what some people perceive to be their constitutional rights? If we as a society are willing to accept that, what kind of society are we?”

Yes. Whenever tragedies occur we need to go with a knee-jerk reaction and completely gut the principles this country was founded upon

Assuming this happened, guns would only be in the hands of the government and criminals. That sounds like an awesome result.

I believe they're talking about common sense changes like better background checks so these mentally ill people can't get guns. Can't this even be discussed without people flipping out?

Of all the crimes committed that involve guns, this psychopath would have found other ways to murder his daughter.

1) How often do mass shootings have to occur for you moron gun nuts to realize we live in the only country where this happens? And that we could probably find a common sense solution if it weren't for the NRA owning every politician and every redneck jerking off to their newest AR build?
2) the country was founded on slavery too. Though I'm sure you're pissed about its demise also.

Just like making drugs illegal keeps them out of addicts hands.
Brilliant!
How about addressing the mental illness issue. And the culture of quota and affirmative action and PC nonsense that allowed such an aggrieved and dangerous person to progress anyway.

Cars kill more people than guns.. Let's start with the bigger problem

You're full of shite. I mean, I know I'm a "gun nut" and all, but this is simply a lie. We do lead all countries in TOTAL NUMBER of mass shootings, but not on a per capita basis.

You must not read the news if you think mass shootings occur only in the US.
The country was not founded on slavery, but that discussion was tabled to get support from all of the colonies against England.
Learn some history.

Homosexuality is not a mental illness.
Being born African American is not a mental illness.
Their daughter would still be dead.
Yet I would be denied a gun because I have ADHD, which makes me autistic.

Oh, fine. Only First World country where this happens, with any regularity. But by all means keep comparing the United States to Pakistan, China and whatever other strawman point you were trying to make.

Do you realize that in Britain knife attacks are on the rise. In fact now there is an initiative to ban knives. Do you not see how this is a bad idea?

Hahahaha! Okay? I think I'll take my chances with a crazy dude with a knife. Or a hammer. Or a fricking 7 iron.
