What do you say about cooking a meatball stew in a black pot? I'm going to use 50/50 ground deer and pork.

You don't want to do no whole bunch of tomatoes in a black pot.

Cooked a big pot of this for the bama game last year. Wouldn't believe the number of people who talked to me about their moms/dads, grandmas/grandpas cooking meatball stew. Kind of a lost dish that many people ate as a kid but don't cook for their families today. Thick brown onion gravy over rice. Cook dat shite!

Can you give a brief description on how you made it?

I meant that I can't imagine it with tomatoes. He isn't talking about a red gravy with meatballs for spaghetti.

My husband made a meatball sauce piquant last week (not in an iron pot). It doesn't appeal to me.

Meatball stew/fricasse with some potatoes, carrots, & turnips; man dats some good stuff yeah! My favorite fricasse is pork backbone. Make a big mustardy/eggy potato salad or a mayo based coleslaw & you will be in heaven.

We used to get this in HS. Reminds me of hamburger steak and rice and gravy.

My mom taught my wife how to the same red/brown gravy for a courtbouillon except adding meatballs instead of fish. Delish!

Brown a bunch of onions and garlic, make a roux. Add meatballs and simmer. I usually just brown the meatballs in the oven. This is a good recipe to start with LINK
