I can't remember where I read this - it was either a Cam or Les interview - but he said that Cam kept insisting Harris wasn't ready, and Les kept pressuring for Harris. Finally Cam relented, and they started Harris for Auburn. He was terrible, we were destroyed, and Harris was injured.

I'm not sure how true that is, but it came from one of the coaches. If it's true it's safe to assume that Les learned a lesson about interfering and let Cam call the shots the rest of the way.

Cam was actually laughing in interviews about the chances of starting Harris against AU until the day that the change was announced. He knew he wasn't ready but Les was getting a lot of heat from the fanbase and he probably wanted to scratch that itch himself. He started Harris against Cameron's objections.

After the way it blew up in his face I'm sure he'll be far more hesitant to stick his toe in that water again. If the o-line, the run game, and the D are solid this year I fully expect AJ for 80% of the snaps or more. If Harris starts an SEC game it will probably be because of jail or injury and saying that he'll be on a short leash is an understatement.

I just don't think I'm buying the injury.

Which is better for the kid who is struggling to understand the offense?

1. Coach says publicly that he is hampered by a nagging injury and may or may not play?

2. Coach comes out publicly and says, "He dumb and having trouble understanding the offense"?

So CLM fibbed, get over it

But when did he say it? I don't ever remember it even being stated. That's all. If I'm wrong that's cool. Just don't remember Miles saying this.

Some QB's can't recover mentally from this no matter freshman or senior. Jarrett Lee struggled with this his entire career after getting beat up mentally his freshman year.

Jarrett Lee actually had a pretty darn good senior year, excluding Bama.

And I hear you, some guys confidence can get shaken. But that's life as a QB at a big time program. Gotta step up or get left behind. All this touchy feely concern for a QB's psyche is usually overblown. If a guy has talent, put him on the field and let him learn. Failure is a part of sports, he's got to learn to deal with it.

As others have said, Cameron wanted Harris and inherited Jennings.

I doubt he prefers Jennings.

It just seems like under Miles, most seasons the QB play has been the weakest link of the team. I still thought Mett was not given a fair chance his first year here--even though the team was great & Lee played well until the 'Bama game.

Even though he's a true freshman, I don't think the coaches should rule out McMillan, given what the other 2 QB's have shown.

But I truly hope Harris takes advantage of his opportunity. I think now that he has a season under his belt at LSU, by all accounts is healthy & has a better idea of what it takes to be a starting QB on the college level, Harris should show substantial improvement.

Which quarterback did Cameron recruit personally, and which did he inherit?

Cam helped to recruit Harris. Jennings was committed to LSU prior to Cam as I recall.

maybe we need to address the reason we need a starting qb to begin with.

Then he failed miserably against Auburn

I really don't get this kind of comment.

So did Jennings fail miserable against New Mexico St.

For the record Harris led offense was behind by 17 points before LSU started to open up the offense and by then Auburn turned up the heat. Blaming Harris solely for the poor start against Auburn is just not totally fair.

Also playing on the road against a ranked team in one of the hardest stadiums in the SEC is just not the best way to say a freshman failed miserably.

The defense did Harris no favors in that game, but he was in second and short situations consistently and couldn't execute.

He had a very large role in the loss, but he wasn't going to put up 42 points that night regardless.

It certainly could happen that way - it would be great. But the bottom line is that Cameron prefers Jennings. And that preference comes from untold hours of seeing the two guys up close and personal. Sure, Miles would be getting his wish with Harris at the helm. But just how much pull does Cameron have with this decision - particularly if Harris struggles again with the pressure of being "the guy"?

So, Miles wants Harris to start, but Cameron won't let him?

You don't tell your competition that your backup QB is injured. It was probably something he could have played through if he'd had to, but not something that would have been preferable.
