re: What are the expectations this year?

I expect 50+wins baring some injury to AD that keeps him out for a billion games.
I think we'll be competitive in round 2, but ultimately lose in 6 or 7.

I don't think the team will be dramatically better than last season. I said then that they were about a .500 team and they won 45. I believe Vegas has them projected at 45.5 for next season. I'll be optimistic and go with the over. That would easily put them in as the 7th or 8th seed. The West is top heavy this season, but the bottom is pretty awful. So not making the playoffs would be a huge letdown. It will be hard for them to beat any of the top 6 in a 7 game series. It'll be all about match ups and health. So I'll go with 48 wins and a hard fought first round exit..

What is the realistic goal for the team to reach?
50+ wins and a competitive first round. the west is ridiculous any match up in the first is going to be tough. Getting to the 2nd round would be over achieving at this point I think.

Dumb arse is in way associated with the name. But you can't say we didn't improve when just our team actually playing together and building chemistry will make us better. It was just a shitty statement. And stress fractures heal fine when given time to properly heal.

There's that ray of sunshine we all know and love. You are one miserable frick. I bet you are a hoot at birthday parties.
We just got a new coach, one that runs an uptempo system. He brought in one of the best defensive minds in the game, a guy who is known for developing by getting guys to do the little things. We won a ton of games with an oft injured team, and we have a superstar who will be even better than last season. Is that enough for you? HELL NO!
As stated in a previous thread, if we signed KD, some people would bitch about cap space. You sir, are that person.

There are teams I just don't want to see in the first round, and teams I think we can go toe to toe with. Matchups will be key.
I'm on the "massive upgrade" at coach bandwagon. Thinking it will translate to a few more wins coupled with better health. I'm hoping for 52-54. We haven't had a legitimate coaching staff since being here. I think it's going to be a jolt of life for some people in the city to see what real coaching can do for a team.

I think these type of threads are a trap. You ask people's opinions just to attack people you don't agree with. The guy just gave his opinion. It wasn't totally off the wall. But it was a bit negative, so guys lambasted him for it. Makes people not want to post. Anybody that doesn't follow the group think gets ganged up on and ridiculed.
Also, I'm fine with Gentry and i hope he does well. But to call him a massive upgrade is a reach. The guy has 3 winning seasons in 12 years as a head coach. I'd rather consider him a lateral move until he proves otherwise...

are you talking about Peliclown? Because you do know he's just trolling right?

The problem is a lot of people with a dissenting opinion typically convey that opinion in an emotional and poorly supported manner. Sometimes I think your basketball views are completely crazy, but I know you actually thought about it rather than your motivation being "The team sucks, Fire Everybody!" That's not the case with most of the dissenting opinions here, and I'd say half of them are just troll attempts by an Alejandro alter.
And for those of you with genuinely different opinions, remember that today's group think isn't tomorrow's group think. This board has done 180's before and will do it again, but sometimes it takes that lone dissenting voice taking the lumps to get pendulum swinging the other direction.

You really think you can win a road series v one of the top 4?
I'll think our EXPECTATION should be to win a first round series. You're the one saying "road series" and "against top 4" and etc.

I think that a completely healthy Jrue would have made game 2 vs. the Warriors 50/50 at least. We definitely hold on in Game 3 with a 100% Jrue, and if you're up 2-1 with another home game in the Blender, I don't think it'd have been crazy to say the Pels could have won. We had what every playoff team needs, someone the other team doesn't have an answer for. AD ended up leading the league in PPG in the playoffs this year.

Expectations? ....Absolutely a 6 or 7 seed, handle business in the 1'st round, and go from there.

As someone said here, the Spurs were an elite team last year and didn't get out of the first round. You can't "expect" a certain round.
Most coaches like to set expectations at something within your control, and as corny as it sounds - Improvement is the expectation.
Improvement from individual core players. Improvement in how we use AD. Defensive improvement for sure. Improvement in communication and effort.
The trajectory has been up for the past 3 years and it needs to continue trending upwards. Defense is the #1 priority. If we are not top 12-15 in DRtg, I would consider that a huge disappointment.
How far they go in the playoffs will depend on health and matchups, but the expectation this year is that the Pels should be a much better team in April 2016 than they were in April 2015. No more, no less.

I never noticed him being that bad before, but he lost all credibility when he melted down after we traded the 56th pick

This is how coaches and front office people would talk about expectations. "Competitive 2nd round exit" would never be discussed in an NBA setting
You listen to Kerr on Lowe's podcast, and even he acknowledged that he never considered a championship in training camp. Goal was just to get better every day.
I understand it is more fun to argue on a message board, rank teams, etc. but the true answer to this question - the one the team is setting internally for itself - involves improvement day to day over artificial benchmarks.

we trade EVERY pick you can't defend that

We got scammed by the fricken 76ers man. Bought that brand new car with a broken engine. Unacceptable on our FO's part. Sorry but Dawson will be a beast in this league who gives a shite if he was underrated and a second round pick.
