yeah he tweeted it about 10 minutes ago. it's already plastered across the internet, so there's no taking it back now.

seriously, he's one of MAYBE a handful of sports reporters who can say sources and be taken seriously.

The max fine for a HIPAA violation according to their website is $50k. How much more than than did ESPN pay to obtain those JPP records?

I would think there's a larger pool of possible people who took the picture than him / his assistants. I'm sure a lot of their staff could access the info from a terminal. There's another doctor's patients listed below also, so it's not only his patients, etc.

Well I'm sure JPP has the lawyers to up that fine. If he got down savvy lawyers that could prove a loss of wages do to this, alot of people will be without jobs.

I guess we all know JPP and the 65year old males medical record number

Yep, there was talk on the Russillo show about how JPP was not obligated to release medical information because he was a free agent.

They were hypothesizing that he was going to use the hype about the injury to not be signed to the franchise tag so he would be a unrestricted free agent and could sign elsewhere.

May not be a kosher way to go about things but it was definitely within his rights and now is impossible for him.

It's still unethical and he released an non affiliated parties information. It's just bad ethics.

Thank you. Shefty didn't violate HIPAA because he or ESPN aren't covered entities. Whoever released the information to Shefty is on the hook for the violation.

hopefully schefty checked with ESPN's lawyers before posting that.

The duty to keep confidentiality does not fall on ESPN. It falls on the hospital.

They'll also be on the hook for the criminal charges (as well as the civil fine) because it was intentionally done.
