Next year with the addition of Devin white

I agree we have ridiculous talent at the RB position. Still, we must force SEC defenses to respect the pass.

I think next year will be better.
Since they will all still be there lmao

On paper it has to be the most highly rated ever for LSU.
But the QB is also part of the backfield... Subpar QB play will be the demise of this team as far as getting atop the West...........

Good job having confidence in Harris, PJ...

Les will be accused of running up the score this year I predict.
He might start throwing in the 4th just because our RB crop is too good.

Hilliard and James weren't slouches either and proved that game after game.
It's WAAAY too early to say this about the current group.
And no, Darrell Williams did not prove himself as worthy of a listing in any GOAT lists last year. Nor did LF, if you are serious about this issue.

And yet half the people posting in this thread will be complaining in October about how CLM always runs it up the gut, is afraid to air it out, etc.

Ya think?
Leonard Founette

THAT backfield is better than about half the backfields in college football, and TigerTreyjpg is old, can't run, catch or block.

That is a deep backfield... and most-- if not all-- of those guys are tough, physical runners. If the o-line plays up to it's potential and let's the RBs get a little momentum upfield, the running game really does have the potential to wear some defenses down.
Last year, there were a few too many plays where opposing teams either diagnosed runs or just beat blocks and got in the backfield to stop LSU's backs before they could really get a head of steam going. And those kinds of running plays do not wear a defense down. My memory might not be entirely accurate, but I feel like this happened to LF several times in the first half of the season. I don't blame LF for those plays; it's hard for most running backs not named Barry Sanders to consistently juke one or more defenders before reaching the line of scrimmage. But whether it was the play calling, o-line or the RB, I do think it happened at least a little less as the season went on... And LF definitely improved.
Anyway, hopefully year 2 of the Cameron / Grimes combo will help the running game get on track a little quicker because there really is a sense that this group of running backs has the chance to be special.
One more small thing... If there is one thing I would like to see Fournette develop, it would be the ability to slip off of contact a little better. There were times when the first man would get to him and maybe couldn't bring him down, but ended up standing him up so that a second defender ended up getting a clean shot on him. At that point, for preservation of his body, he needs to learn to shift his weight a little better to turn those into glancing blows instead of letting himself get drilled. I always thought Stevan Ridley was pretty good at that. At LSU, Ridley would run pretty much straight at defenses, but didn't really outright run over them. Instead, he had a way of shifting his shoulders and hips at the last second (while keeping his momentum straight ahead) so that he'd sort of careen forward off of them for more yards... But here's to hoping with the recent press that LF has improved as much or more than any other player on the team that this last paragraph is completely irrelevant.

Not only line play, but offensive tempo, offensive play calling, and our ability to make the defense respect the pass.
Absolutely right though, every OC in the country wishes they had our stable.

Last time I checked there had to be a quarterback that could actually hand off to these backs without fumbling it. And an offensive line that could open holes and a coach mixing up the plays so the defense didn't stack the line against the run.

I have no sympathy whatsoever for Smart, Chavis & Muschamp.
They haven't exactly distinguished themselves as the classiest coaches.
This group of RB's has a chance to be special, and they should be explosive, have tremendous speed and be very tough to tackle.
But on a different note, how will these RB's stack up on the other part of the job--helping protect the QB against blitz packages and just throwing a block when needed?

How come no one outside LSU fans has this crew ranked very high. Most folks have LSU backs low on the SEC rankings.
