Based on media reports, this group is C+/B-. Maybe they will be better, but best in LSU history? If that is true, then they will need to prove the pundits wrong.
If the pundits are correct, this group is slightly better than your average bear.
Let's hope the pundits are wrong.

Dalton Hilliard and Gary James say hi

I'm not worried about the RBs, it should be a very good group. FBs, I like Ducre and Moore played last year.
OL will miss La'el, but all of them have a year under Grimes zone scheme. LSU should be fairly good here. As a group the OL improved last year as the season progressed, TEs as well.
QBs need to improve. Also WRs route running. All are a year older which doesn't hurt and they definitely have skills.
I believe Harris will get a real shot this year, we will all see how he performs.

He might start throwing in the 4th just because our RB crop is too good.
again, defensive coordinators aren't dumb. If our passing attack is terrible like last year, they'll stack the box and force us to throw.
You can't just say that because our RBs are good, our offense will be effective. Doesn't work like that.

Also 97 (that right?) with Kevin Faulk, Diesel and Rondell Mealey

And Tommy Banks.

Leonard Fournette improved as last season progressed and word on the street is that he is continuing to improve. But he has not quite become a true breakout star... yet. Most LSU fans feel it will happen this year and I'm in that camp as well. I think he will be featured more and better than he was used last year.
Behind him, I think only D. Williams has any playing time. Williams looked good in flashes and may well be good enough to not only have a solid career at LSU, but to make it to the next level. That being said, just off the top of my head, I wouldn't rank him ahead of the UGA backs, or D. Henry at Bama. And I think UTenn had a breakout freshman back. I'm not sure about who the rest of the SEC is returning, much less teams in other leagues.
Beyond LF and Williams, there's a hell of a lot of potential on the roster right now... but it's entirely unproven. If only LF and Williams end up having a good year, I won't be entirely surprised... but I won't be surprised either if everything clicks and three or four of these backs make a name for themselves, we keep all of these backs fresh through the season, and still run it down everyone's throats.

Most folks have LSU backs low on the SEC rankings.
Phil Steele has them #6 in the country.

When Stovall was HC, in his second year we had seven running backs that made NFL rosters. Gary James, Dalton Hilliard, Herman Fontenot, Karl Bernard, Gene Lang, Eric Martin, and Gil Fenerty.
Bernard and Fenerty transferred. Lang, Eric Martin, and Fontenot changed positions.

No, he did not prove himself to be in the best backfield ever discussion. I saw a competent back with good power, average moves and average speed. It's been a long time since we haven't had two guys as good as DW in our backfield.
The Taylor, Cannon, Robinson backfield is by far LSU's bast ever (compared to their contemporaries, not each other)

Fournette by himself is A- to B+...

Can we trade 2, maybe 3 for a top notch QB. Just kidding.

Do you actually still believe the media??

Not sure about the backfield as a whole but I have pretty much no doubt that Leonard Fournette will be the best running back in college football this year.
Whether or not he gets the ball as much as he should remains to be seen. Eleven carries when he's averaging thirteen yards a pop like the Notre Dame game is a fricking crime!!!
He needs to have twenty plus carries per game. I'm not even getting paid for this shite and I know this.
