1. Chiropractor, 2. Inversion Table, 3. Yoga / Pilates.

You can't sit around and do nothing or it will get way worse. No need for meds / shots. It will take a few months to get over. Find a good chiropractor.

My dad has herniated discs and arthritic vertebrae. The neurosurgeon basically told him there wasn't much he could do about it. He's had some relief from spinal injections.

Worst pain and physical problem be ever experienced. Pain relievers did nothing.

See a doctor, don't wait for it to just go away.

gabapentin dn neurontin are cheaper, generic cousins. They work wonders for sciatica.

I am on neurontin now and it help immensely

If said pain is originating from your back i.e. disc issue then be reassured that 90% of this type of acute pain resolves in 6-8 weeks.

Give it some time.

Isn't Lyrica addictive?

Damn didn't know this was so prevalent. In movies only old Jewish people have this ailment.

It is a scheduled drug that you aren't supposed to abruptly discontinue but I've never heard of anyone being truly addicted to it. I guess it can be habit forming.

Wow. Page 2 and no one has mentioned self myofascial release.

While each situation can be unique, sciatica often comes from piriformis issues. Look up some releases for your piriformis (basically rolling on a soft ball) and TFL. Then stretch.

Mobility WOD and yoga tune up are the best resources for this. Basically everyone else is just copying mobility WOD's innovation.

I'm dead serious when I say this - I have helped a bunch of people with sciatica symptoms, and every single one of them has reported success with rolling/smashing the general area.

OP- do you have a desk job?
If so, stand up more during the day and be aware of how you sit.
Don't snooze on it- could lead to much worse.

I second stretching the piriformis. Also, I did dry needling once when my muscles were really tight. That worked as well. Mostly strengthen your core and don't reaggravate the injury.

How much time you spending on the computer? Serious question. If you are spending a lot of time, look at your workstation height, chair height and leg position. I've seen a lot of people experience sciatica from tight hamstrings due to sitting in a non-neutral position.

Also, if you sleep on your side, check out a knee pillow. It takes a lot of strain off your lower back.

Do you have a pull up bar? You can hang from it daily and it will help stretch the spine without getting an inversion table. Make sure you work out (at least walk) daily. I recently started taking Magnesium and it wiped out my back pain by 70%.

This is the case with my dad, although it usually takes 2-3 months. Unfortunately, it tends to reoccur elsewhere.

I know my sciatica issue is caused because my lower three vertebrae don't have any discs in them anymore, basically bone rubbing on bone.

Doctor said I could get surgery, but it would inhibit playing sports.

Didn't want that to happen, so I basically just live with the pain.

Lyrica works great, also stretch everyday.

Do not sit with your wallet in your back pant pocket. Not while on the computer, driving or whatever. Had same pain and cousin told me to take my wallet out whilst driving. He heard it on Paul Harvey. Then stretch. It was gone in a week. No meds.

I have had pain since October. Sometimes it is worse than others. I do p-90x3 including the yoga, also have an inversion table and it still hasn't gone away. Ortho says surgery, I said no. I did it doing deadlifts. I basically threw up when it happened and haven't been able to lift since, so started P-90x to stay in shape. I needed the flexibility to improve with age. It has but Sciatica hasn''t. I have a roller as well, it hasn't helped. Very interested in this.

Move your wallet to the other pocket. Get up and walk around more.

That'll be $100.
If you're on Obamacare, then I need $1 from everyone on the OT.

I've been dealing with it for about 3 months now. Went to a doctor who said all he could do for me was recommend physical therapy since i'm already in really good shape (humble brag). I was already stretching and foam rolling so I wasn't going to spend $ to have someone tell me to do that.

Go HERE and get one of these .

I lay on it and put it right on the nerve and it hurts but in a very very good way. I also put it under my left arse check and put pressure on the nerve from there. It's also good to rub on the side of your leg where the pain shoots down. It's helped more than anything.

Man there are a lot of puns in the above paragraph.
