Need to get rid of Asik and make a run at Deandre Jordan

Highly unlikely but would be an amazing frontcourt.

You mean get rid of Asik+one or more of Gordon/Tyreke/Ryno?
Nah
Nah

We would have to make trades to clear space, but I don't know if we have any bait besides Reke. He's too valuable as insurance for a Jrue injury. Maybe we could trade Gordon as an expiring to a contender. I'm all for this though

The new scheme may suit Ryno and Gordon. I don't think we can afford Jordan if we keep both Ryno and Girdin. We would wreck the boards with Jordan.

Get this idea out of your head right now. Going after any $20 million player besides a superstar like KD isnt' worth the cost. To clear that much cap space you have to let Asik walk, drop the MLE, Ajinca's bird righta and Gordon.
DeAndre Jordon or Goran Dragic
vs
Asik/Gordon/Ajinca/Gerald Green
It is not nearly as simple as "replacing" Asik with Jordan. And that's assuming you can dump Gordon. If you can't dump Gordon then you have to dump Tyreke or Ryno and since they make less than Gordon you'd have to sacrifice Cole and Pondexter as well.

While I tend to agree for the most part, let me play around on the other side.
Demps is fantastic at getting 7th, 8th, 9th men out of thin air. If you can get a stud, why not go get him and trust Dell to do it again.
Let's say you let Asik walk and can find a suitor for Gordon where you get nothing back, and that's how you land Jordan. Then, you just have the Room Exception after that. You would have
Jrue/Cole
Reke/
Q-Pon/
AD/Ryno
Jordan/
You would have the 56th pick, the Room Exception and minimum deals to fill out the roster. Not ideal, but at that point you trust in Dell to eventually work his magic and fill out spots 8-10 by February at the latest.
Again, not saying I am 100% on board with this plan, but I can make the argument.

I see no realistic way that Jordan comes to N.O. Besides, I seem to remember that he was considering Dallas if he doesn't sign a max deal with the Clippers.

We let go of Cunningham?
And if we do this, could we trade Anderson to help fill out the roster

No. We should get rid of Asik though.

While true, this is an exaggeration of sorts. Austin Rivers was worthless to us by the time we traded him, but it took the #10 pick to get him. Same thing can be said of Juju for Belinelli. Jason Smith took a late 1st (Brackens), so did Vasquez (Pondexter). Lopez took cap space that was available because we dumped Jack (the proceeds from trading our 1st for Bayless). I'm not saying he couldn't, just that we're running out of the "trash", which typically starts out as a C level asset, that he can turn into treasure.

Asik/Gordon is definitely the only option. You lose too much for sure if you can't find a taker for Gordon.

i'm curious to know what is making so many people think Deandre is a legit possibility. there is less than a 0% chance that we get him. is it just blind hope or do they really believe we have a shot?
Posted on 6/7/15 at 9:45 am to Weston5
If Deandre showed interest in us then we'd be foolish not to at least explore getting the space for him. But he more than likely will not and it certainly wouldn't be worth it to lose Asik+Gordon and the MLE for a chance at him.

People hate Asik so much it makes them crazy. That is seriously the answer, I've seen so many pie in the sky ways to replace him, from going after DeAndre to going back to the Stiemsma level centers.

People are retarded.
And you're right, you don't make that drastic a move unless it's to get a superstar (KD). Deandre is not that.

He turned Salmons into Cole. You can get trash (expiring contracts) if you want it to turn into a decent piece. Also, picked up DC off the scrap heap. Took flyers on Ayon, Ajinca, and Babbitt and did okay. Got Morrow on an expiring contract. That's pretty darn good.
You look at that top 7, and if healthy, how many minutes do you need? Maybe 10-20. Now, of course you need depth, but Dell eventually finds that.

Of the other guys you listed, Cunningham is the only one that had an immediate impact and he had highly unusual circumstances. Everyone else that he got for a minimum deal, true trash, took at least half a season and an offseason of assimilation to become useful pieces. I'm a Demps fan, I just don't think he can turn minimum contracts into immediate rotation players. All the minimum guys have taken time to work their way into the rotation. Now maybe Gentry will be quicker to trust guys than Monty was, I just think if you go this route, you better be ok with being 7 deep this season.

EG + Asik > Jordan
Asik isn't great, but he's solid. EG is an excellent shooter that surely costs too much, but he's the best pure shooter on this team.
Jordan: 34.4 MPG, 11.5/15.0/0.7; 2.2 bpg, 1.0 spg, 1.3 tov
Asik: 26.1 MPG, 7.3/9.8/0.9; 0.7 bpg, 0.4 spg, 1.3 tov
PER36:
Jordan: 12.1/15.7/0.8
Asik: 10.1/13.6/1.3
