I have a 2014 Limited and I love it. Plenty of room for our two kids and luggage for the road trips we've taken. The only con is the torque steer when you're taking a turn faster than normal.

highlanders are better than the 4-runner IMO. we are currently looking at them too. They just ride better.
BTW where did you find this car for that price? I've beem looking for sometime

A Highlander is just an oversized car. It won't be able to do anything utility wise better than a 4Runner. Now whether you need that extra utility is up to the individual, but to say the Highlander is better because it rides better misses the point of these vehicles.

I just bought a 2006 4runner, so you know what I'm going to recommend.
I will say that nonsense about them flipping over is complete and utter bullshite.
Also, without looking up anything to support this, I bet the 4runner will hold its value much better.

I drive one. 2008, 155,000 miles ticking like a clock (knock on wood).
Bought it with 18,000 miles on it and paid $20,200.
They may be pulling you by your "stringed instrument". Great car, look around for a better deal.

I drive a 2007 4Runner and I love it. I have 190K miles on it and still runs like the day I bought it.
Safety ratings are fine.

4runner: Truck, looks better from the exterior, slightly more room inside, terrible gas mileage, boring interior
Highlander: Lifted car with soft ride, more luxurious interior, better gas mileage, woman's car

My ole lady drives a 2015 Highlander. She loves it and my parents have driven Toyota/Lexus for as long as I can remember and swear by them. Just my $.02

2011 Highlander with 94K miles here. Been a great car with no problems. Oil changes, air filters and tires and that's about it. Getting 20-21mpg and plenty of power. Ride quality is better than 4Runner and difference in cargo room is negligible. Consumer Reports best in class several years running. Great choice for a family car.

It's undeniably the best value for a family car on the market if you don't want a minivan.

The wife has a 2004 limited. Looks, drives like new today. 150K easy mom miles...no issues besides regular maintanence (brakes, oil, filters). Have not done any of the replace timing belt, differential oil? etc high mileage maintenance stuff. In fact, just replaced the first headlamp bulb last month.

I have a 2001 with 400k+ on it that runs beautifully. One of the Pimpettes drives it now. Those old Highlanders are the most boring ride ever but they last forever.

Just get a 4Runner and beef it up. No reason to pay so much more for a Highlander.

I looked into 4Runners
That is the car of choice for Haitians in south florida. For some reason, they love toyotas.

I'm in the market for a reasonably priced SUV
The Highlander is a crossover, not an SUV. It's closer to a tall station wagon or a minivan than the 4Runner.
It's a decent crossover though....which means that it is impressive in a field that offers lower towing capacity than real SUVs, less passenger volume than minivans, and similar crappy fuel economy and high sticker prices as larger trucks.
