no, I get it
my point was that people will push the "being a considerate neighbor" line when it affects them, but not when it affects others

Are there 7pm grass cuts people are steaming about?

But your point is stupid. I can expect my neighbors to be considerate at 4 AM when I'm asleep but I can't make them shut up when I'm trying to take a nap at 2 PM. The actual time matters.

My son when he was an infant wasn't coddled at bedtime and naptime to the point that everyone in the house had to whisper when he was asleep. Because of that he can sleep through pretty much anything.

Same here.
OP - Put a fan in their room or something. create some white noise to drown out the outside world if you have to.

Have we established if the OP drives a Subaru?

He's not asking him to shut it down. He's asking him to not do this one thing. I bet if it was something he did once in a while, he'd get no complaints. But doing it everyday, no matter what the time and even without kids can be annoying. Guys got a right to make noise. But just because you have the right, doesn't always mean you necessarily should do it.
What if your neighbor just decided to run his chainsaw at the edge of his property line right by your living room window? Just wide arse open from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. There's no law stopping it, but it would be annoying as frick and I'm sure you'd eventually have enough of it. So although I agree that guy isnt doing anything wrong, I also see how the OP would have enough and politely ask his neighbor to not do that.

I guess the neighbor should abandon all hobbies which don't involve a dark room and headphones.

Download a white noise app on your phone and place it in the room with the kids.

I wouldn't mind the dude mowing his lawn, or weedeating it or tweaking his outboard motor.
or a crawfish boil.
One thing that the OP hasn't mentioned is how long this goes on, and how often.
If it's once a week or so, no big deal.
If it's every damn night, the guy needs to practice his hobby in a place that it doesn't annoy his neighbors. It's pretty simple.

Yeah, I'm not saying that the OP is in the right here, 7pm is excessive. And frankly, just because he has kids doesn't mean the neighborhood has kids.
At the same time, the neighbor didn't have to be such a dick about it. He has the right to be out there (I'm assuming, don't know the law on RCs on the street), but if my neighbor had an infant and came to me politely and brought up the issue, I would like to think I would at least make an effort to help him out in the spirit of being neighborly.
And I'm sure it's been discussed, but what adult plays with RC cars? I'm surprised there hasn't been a "is it trashy" thread on it. My vote is trashy.

Maybe he thought you were rude to want to him to stop at 7 because you have babies? This could go both ways.

You have babies. They wake up. Deal with it.

Solid advice!
Fans are the best tool to help sleeping kids. I still use one in my 8yr old's room.
shite, I even use one.

You have two of the most annoying weapons on the face of this planet.
Use those ear shattering squeals from hell on your neighbor rather than the patrons of a restaurant/theater.
